According to scriptures we come from the dust. It is not specified what kind of dust. Could these theories be complementing instead of oppossing?

They are complementing in my opinion.

It's just that thousands of years ago nobody would have understood the big bang theory or evolution.

Man was created from the earth and will return to it. His soul is immortal and will live forever. At the end of time we too will experience bodily resurrection.

sure there could. however i find it quite amusing that we came from dust and women came from a rib bone. (why does that make absolutely no sense to me?)
