i was wondering if i could make payments on what is owed and i don't even know how much it is either its has been since 05 and could i open a account anywhere for direct deposit of my paycheck?

Yes to both questions.
As a rule, banks are very nice to people who want to pay debts. They will even, if asked, run a month by month balance to show you how interest has inflated the amount. If the debt is to a store, it probably has been handed over to a collection agency. They are not allowed to hassle you, but may be ready to negotiate a % payment to get some money out of the debt.
Direct deposit is available at most banks, but will depend on the ability/willingness of your employer.

The best way to your future is to fix your past...I'd make good with BOA with payments or what ever...then move on
