That is a good question! I have finally found a church that is definately being led by the Holy Spirit- Praise God! Many churches nowadays seem to be spending more money on "stuff" and not focusing on the actual needs and spiritual aspects of what a church should be. It saddens me. My church is VERY small and we study the Bible book by book and verse by verse...that is what I really like about it. We have a missions ministry, that goes to certain areas and shares the gospel with others and gives them clothes-food- toys for kids etc....I like smaller churches personally. I am not saying big churches are not doing the "right thing" because I am not to judge- I am sure there are MANY churches who are following God's will~
oh and what a previous posted said about the "feel good" churches, I agree! They sugar coat scriptures or water them down so that nobody is "offended" --but that is NOT right! You should teach the truth the way it is! Straight from God's word!

My church (that I just left) was bad at both... The finances were very clandestine and all controlled by the Pastor and his wife only and the word wasn't really doing it for me.
Honestly, I think a church should be a little of both. They should have good books like a business so that they can be above reproach and good Word so that the people are fed. Unfortunately, sometimes that is hard to find.

It is a place to grow in the Word, but it is also so much more (or at least it can be). My wife and I have found a great community to belong to. There are easily twenty people that we could call with any number of problems at any hour of the night. Most of our really good friends were met in church. We tend to look at it this way: We're doing life together. That includes learning and growing in faith, but it also includes living everyday life.

Fed the word, I wouldn't go anywhere else. Feel good churches afraid to step on anyone toes are Apostates! They won't teach out of the word of God and just want you to feel good about yourself.
On the other hand legalistic church's aren't for me either.

My church is definitely not a business - there are only three employees, and the rest of the work that the church needs done is accomplished through the volunteer system. It is a place to worship, sing, learn, fellowship, and praise God.

To be fed the Word. If it was rated as a business it would have been bankrupt long ago.

Yes, the "Church" today has become like the world, weak and superficial. It is house of whoredom and merchandise. The true believers separate themselves from that trash and truly worship God in word and deed. The word "church" should never refer to a place of worship, but it is the believers that are called out from the world and its foolishness. As evidence, one only need to look at the millionaire, celebrity peachers on television and their followers.

Since it has over 6 million members, with no one getting paid, nothing being sold, and no retail business being done, even their books and Bibles are given away, it is not a business. Brooklyn, NY is not happy with them refusing to rent space to retail businesses in their buildings along major streets.

I'm the pastor ... and it took me years to even consider Incorporating ... I prefer the natural 'coming unto the Lord' ... rather than serving the 'state'. I would hope those the attend feel the same way ...

It's a house of worship, where we learn the word of God and fellowship with the Saints.
