My son started taking zyrtec when he was 20 months and he was fine. Your son may be allergic to mik. Many children with milk allergies get recurrent ear infections and/or other allergy like symptoms that parents can confuse with colds. Discuss this with your child's doc.

I would try the Zyrtec for a while. My 12 month old daughter takes it when she gets a runny nose to try and prevent fluid build up. My son had drainage tubes put in his ears at around 9 months old. The tubes worked great but if you want to avoid surgery, I would try the Zyrtec. Good Luck!

My son had constant ear infections. He did take Zyrtec for awhile. Finally, I went to a ENT Doctor and he sugguested tubes be put in his ears. This was when he was 14 months. Now my son is almost 4. Last year he had his second set a tubes put in. The ear infections are gone. Remember to becareful when kids get ear infections it can lead to hearing loss. This is just what I have been told. Tubes work though I am glad we did it!

You should probably investigate the possibility of food allergies. They can cause a lot of ear infections and sinus problems.
A hot water bottle can ease the discomfort, also gently massaging below the outer ear can help drain the fluid a bit. If there is no eardrum perferation present than a few drops of warm garlic/ mullein oil feels good!
If this is a rcurring problem i would try to rule out environmental and dietary factors before drugging him.

yes there is. the doctors are going to want to put tubes in his ears. If you can isolate what is causing the histamine reaction in his system you can control them. My oldest son had these and when he came home from daycare (for good) we didn't have any more prob.s w/ it...come to think of it though that's about the time he quit drinking formula too. Hmm if you will do your home work you can help him without the drugs. A good homeopath would be able to recommend cures too

i don't know the answer but i do know that if your child is exposed to cigarette smoke, the infections will happen over and over and over getting worse and worse, and over time your child may require a procedure to install a drain tube in the ear or ears.
i speak from experience with my own children and smoking families ive known please don't think i am ranting about smoking or that i'm implying you are a smoker
good luck!!

The doctors wouldn't have prescribed it if it weren't safe.
