I met a couple of very viscious alsatians on Sunday and their owners seemed just as viscious and actually quite psychopathic. I actually ran an hid with my Lab. Why would people choose to own animals like that?

I think a dog is only vicious if it is taught to be that way as a pup.

Some people feel that it is a status symbol to have an aggressive dog. I have found the type of people that keep these dogs see them as an accessory instead of a compainion. They don't understand how awful this is for the animal. What a miserable life they must lead (the dogs that is). Although it is stressful to be the owner of an aggressive dog as well. These people don't socialize their animals most likely because the owners aren't socialized much either. I have also met owners who have "vicous" dogs who were very nice people and tried very hard to improve on their dogs behavior. These were people who saw their dogs as companions and want the dog's life to be improved. It is unfortunate -especially for animal health care workers! There is no such thing as bad dogs, just bad owners.

It is a reflection of their personality unfortunately. Most viscious dogs actually are fearful of things that they have not been properly introduced to. They react with aggression because they think that it is a threat and they need to defend them selves.
This man probably thinks the same way. What a tense life they must all lead.

Seriously. I just don't understand it.
There is one family that comes into the vet clinic where I work, that is completely ruled by their Jack Russell Terrier. It bites them. It bites if he doesn't get what he wants when he wants it. He bites to let them know when he needs to go out. Some dogs go to the door and scratch, this one attacks it's owners! Multiple times a day. They can't sit on their couch, they can't have people over. They can't leave him alone too long, or go out in the evenings because he attacks them when they get back.
They tried training him. Three separate trainers told them to have him put down, but they won't. They love him and feel he should live a long life! Unbelievable. I just can't believe it.
This dog is so aggressive that it takes a double dose of sedatives just to get near him and even semi-unconscious, he is still snarling and trying to bite. He actually needs a muzzle while sedated!
Have I mentioned they have children? They are in complete denial that he will hurt the children. After all, the children know to do what he wants and to leave him alone! They trained the children to obey the dog, can you believe that? I asked what sort of example that sets or what kind of experiences they are getting from this, and they think it is a positive experience for them!
Some people are just crazy.
Crazy insane!
Thanks for reading my long old novel. LOL

Unfortunately some people just do and they seem to get a buzz from it too!! However, I own a Japanese Akita and they are in the highly aggressive category, only mines not aggressive to anyone or any other dog, he's just a big soft teddy bear. So, really what I'm trying to say is it's not about the dog itself, it's about how the dog has been handled and brought up.

I think people do that because they are scared of something themselves, why would you want a viscious dog?!?! I've got a chihuahua and have had a few sneery comments from people with big dogs, "get a real dog" is the most common, I think what they actually mean is how's that going to protect you . . . . well my dog is my campanion not my body guard . . . and she's the best ever whether people think she's a "real dog" or not, I love her jst as she is :o)

People make dogs vicious. Most people do this for protection, or to look like a hard a**. Both horrible reasons to make a dog viscious.

No .....I think that for some it might be a dog rescue or a way to keep a dog from being put to sleep .
BUT>>>
I think that dogs are considered vicious after they bite someone.. and in some places .. Once that happens .. Its euthanasia for the dog. where I live... I have a rottie.. thats 110 pounds.. shes doesnt bite.. or attack but she still is scary to people.. .. You need to stay away from this guy at the dog park..... you should have asked .. why are the psychopaths allowed to have vicious dogs.. ( LOL)

It's not the dog it's the owner, I have a pitbull mix and when we got her we were given all types of horror stories of what she was like - but we gave her a go. And she is the softest thing I have ever come across - adores people and the cat and is so affectionate she can be annoying e.g. You can't go to the loo without her following cos she just don't like to be left out. And she was supposed to be nasty - I don't think so ....

People who train there dogs to be mean should be banned instead of breeds being banned. I have three pitbull mixes and good thing there big cuz there not much for guard dogs. the only ones that suffer in these situations is the dogs and that's so sad.

Just a Note:
I'm glad to read the positive dog responses to this question. it's good to know that there are still intelligent people out there.
Rock On!

Because it makes them feel superior. Wait until their viscious dog attacks them. They won't be so big and bad anymore when their face has been rearranged.
