the cat is not a kitten anymore so i am not sure if it will be possible to train him to use the litter box...but the other cat that is the same age as him did fine!

You can train him for this, it might just take a little longer, did you show him where the litter pan is? if so, maybe since he is an outside cat, hes put off by the smell of another cats poop and pee, give him his own, and dont show the other cat where it is. if its diarrhea, hes probably eating stuff outside that make his belly upset. This could also be a problem with his pooping on everything but the litter pan. bring him into the vet and get him checked for heart worms and ring worms... if he has them, he CAN pass them to your healthy indoor cat. Another reason he is slower in litter training is from being outside most of his life, he poops and pees where he wants when he wants, and is not seeing a difference from outside and inside

Due to generations and generations of cats digging and burying their waste, this has emerge as normal to them. It's been hardwired of their mind to do that, so getting your cat to do that, could be such as you going for your garden digging up a place squatting and burying it. It's simply no longer how they are programmed. While it's feasible to instruct a cat to make use of a bathroom, it is not useful to mention that each and every cat would do that. Cats are impartial animals and don't instruct very good (significantly, take a look at coaching them to sit down). You would try the bathroom coaching stuff, however it is not useful to mention that it's going to study. I could simply say to hold the muddle field in the toilet if the learning is unsuccessful (which I suppose it's going to be, since if you happen to had been going to aim this it could've been plenty simpler if it had been more youthful and did not have plenty of time to study the muddle field notion) and if the scent is just too over powering take a look at switching to a muddle with baking soda in it. I use the arm&hammer stuff and it really works best with me. Or you would seem for a muddle deodorizer, traditionally in puppy retail outlets and grocery retail outlets. Best of success :)

I brought in a 4 month old stray a couple of weeks ago and he went straight for the litter box when he had to go.

every time you see it, you need to place your cat in the litter box. wait a while then check if the cat used it. then if it did reward it, if not then dont do anything else to the cat. I think it would be in your best intrest to either take the cat in or give up feeding it. Or you could take it to the pound if you cant take care of it
{hope this helps}

I brought home a stray before, and she taught herself how to use the litter box.
I think it's wired into all cats' brains; kind of instinctive.

Scratch their paw in the litter like they would if they where going to do their business. That is what I have done with all my cats and it seems to work. If it does continue than they may be marking their teritory if they aren't fixed.

when the cat craps somewhere you rub its nose in it smack it on the nose with a rolled up news paper and say that's a bad kitty ( I know that's for dogs but it makes you feel better with any animal)

to use the toilet? it's easy, but has to be done when it's still a kitten and NOT a stray.
