The previous answerer is right.

It is silly to call Impressionism (which is essentially the treatment of the sketch as a finished work) a "renaissance" because this suggests that it involved the revival of classical culture, as the first renaissance (meaning "rebirth") did.

Indeed, if anything, the Impressionists were against the use of the classical world as a reference.

In my opinion, it can't be called another renaissance.

The renaissance was a "rebirth" of Classical themes and attitudes toward paintings, sculptures, and their subjects.

Impressionism is about as far from Classicism as you can get. Instead of carefully studied, carefully applied lines, Impressionist artists use quick, short strokes to try to capture the "impression" of what they are painting rather than a realistic look at it. Not that Impressionism is any better or worse than Renaissance paintings... but they are completely different.

the first one is right. the renaissance was a rebirth coming from the dark ages where noone used or understood techniques such as fore shortening or smufatto. before the renaissance all portraits were from the side and none had the lifelike appearence of raphael, da vinci, rembrandt etc. and most pictures were of either a portrait or iconic. during the renaissance although a lot of them were religious it wasn't all iconic but more of religion as its wrote in the biblew rather than only the good angel stuff. there was also more hidden meaning like the placing of mirrors'lights etc.
impressionism is totally different as it wasnt an exact representation of what was in front of the artist but rather an impression of it. techniques varied but were refined.

no longer likely... Renaissance grew to become right into a "rebirth" of the Classical artwork types, and Impressionism, on the time that it got here out, grew to become into an extremely cutting-part and intensely unexplored artwork variety. Renaissance grew to become into all approximately administration and realism, and so on, and Impressionism grew to become into approximately attempting to depict a 2nd in time, extremely than making something as reasonable as obtainable.
