Its it a must have or must don't?
My cats litter pan is in my laundry room and I don't want to look at it. He is afraid of the closed lid ones.

They are great if you only have one cat, I used 2 for 5 cats and it worked for about a year. The Urine erodes the mechanism, but if you clean it out really well once a month, it should be fine. My friend has one cat and a littermaid and it works great and has been for 3+ years.
I would recommend it for one cat, but not multiple cats.

We have one with two cats. The first year, we went through about three of them, but the warrenty allowed us to get it replaced without having to buy a new one. I would agree with the cleaning it out really well every 8-12 months.

I really don't trust it for the fact that it's electronic and can malfunction at any time injuring or killing the kitty.
Just scoop every day and there's really nothing to look at.

Sorry, I don't use one. We have an indoor toilet.
