A picture of the Australian electrical plug can be see here http://www.buytravelconverter.com/australia.aspx. For U.S. and Canadian appliances, voltage is between 110-120 volts so a step-down transformer is needed to convert the 240 volt electricity in Australia to 110-120 volts. For small items like camera, hairdryer, mobile phone etc a normal travel power converter will do the job. Hope this helps

The Australian domestic and light commercial and industrial plugs and sockets are shown on this website. The Australian type is Type I. The earth pin is vertical. Nearly all power sockets have a switch. Power is 240 Volt, AC 50 Hertz. Australia does not use the Edison screw light bulb common in the USA, except in a few installations. Light bulbs here have a bayonet fitting with two contacts at the base. Light switches are down for on and up for off.
