thou shall not kill.
christains, jews and muslims can all agree on that right?

so god is omnipitant,
and killing another human is murder,
so when god sent jesus to earth he KNEW that he was sending him to his death.
so that would make god a murder since jesus would not have even been in the situation in the first place if god didnt send him.

lets look here for a second.

so basically if you make the rules its ok to break them?

and this is a hypothetical discussion concerning the hypothetical god figure.

for anyone clicking the thumbs down, this is a legitimate question. if you don’t like the implications then simply leave.

interesting notion jaylaw. i'll have to keep that for later though.

i question ridley because the Christians continually beat the notion of free will into the "unbelievers". so I question because I want to know the answer.

2006-10-24 08:27:11 · update #4

i see a lot of "just because he can" answers, but no yes or no answers. does violating your own rules make you a hypocrite? christians continually say that the bible is the LITERAL word of god. why would he be considered just if he cant even follow his own rules?

2006-10-24 08:30:29 · update #5

Actually Aztec I do make the distinction, and I do believe in god. I also have questions that I want answered. I don’t take the bible at face value, I do not believe that it is the literal word of god it is simply a collection of stories on how the church expects their sheep to behave, and I believe NOTHING the church’s and other religions have to say.

2006-10-24 08:35:36 · update #6

well jimbo, since god is infinitely better and vastly above us he should be setting the ULTIMATE example shouldn’t he.

skepsis

i didn’t say anything about muslims and jews regarding jesus. i used that example for the COMMANDMENT. its in the old testament which all three use.

and for you and everyone else, yes people die, its their destiny. but question revolves around intentional murder.

Who are you to question God? He does what he wants to. If he said we should all do his bidding then we should. God can smite who he wants, that's why he is God!

I don't think this argument is a winner. Should God not have created the victim or the murderer? For that matter, God sends EVERYONE into the world knowing they're going to die. And God didn't prohibit the killing of animals. These religions agree that God is a superior being to humans. It's not homicide if you're not the same species.

Even in "documented" cases of direct killing by God, like Soddom & Gomorrah, the Bible clearly illustrates the decision process. Abraham argued God down to sparing the cities for the sake of just ten good people. If God were omniscient, wouldn't the final decision already have been made? Lot and family were saved, although their value was debatable.

Your Jesus argument doesn't hold up either. Muslim say he didn't die. Jews have no opinion. Christians say Jesus was God, therefore you'd have to claim suicide. And it was still other people's choice to kill him.

There are better arguments against God, omnipotence and the nature of good and evil than these.

God isn't hypocrite He by no means intended to kill them if they're well. He is not any Satan love to kill well men and women. But in Noah occasions He warned they weren't listening. so He erased and began new international with Noah's descendents. once more He warned and killed men and women of 2 towns in Lot's time the message is obvious . God isn't a hypocrite however He would possibly not tolerate Evil why can not you are saying atleast as soon as that Satan or Devil is a hypocrite considering the fact that he killed one thousand occasions extra men and women to this point (even well men and women)

I would have to say no He is not. God is pure and Holy. He is "The" Creator, His Word tells us He is Alpha and Omega.I would say He knows the biginning from the end , there are no surprises to God. You asked why would He send Jesus if He knew He would get murdered? He did it beause you and I need a Saviour for our sins. The Bible says "there is no remission of sin without the shedding of blood". So, God in His love for you and me provided not just any sacrifice but one that was perfect, perrfect because Christ had never sinned. This sacrifice was therefore acceptable to God for the sins of man. It is only effective if you acknowledge you are a sinner and that Christ's sacrifice was sufficient to wash away your sins. There is no hockus pockus it is your choice. You can put all the excuses or otherwise to try and change that but that is what the Bible is all about. The choice you make is an eternal one, choose Christ, you choose eterninty in heaven in the presence of God. Reject God's offer and you will spend eternity in separation from God.This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Go and pick up a book by the Greek philospher Epicurus. He has some great insights into the paradox of god or in his cases gods.
This is what Epicurus has to say on the subject, "God either wants to eliminate bad things and cannot, or can but does not want to, or neither wishes to nor can, or both wants to and can. If he wants to and cannot, he is weak -- and this does not apply to god. If he can but does not want to, then he is spiteful -- which is equally foreign to god's nature. If he neither wants to nor can, he is both weak and spiteful and so not a god. If he wants to and can, which is the only thing fitting for a god, where then do bad things come from? Or why does he not eliminate them?"

You are not getting the right point. You are picking certain part of God's word to prove your points which in many cases are dangerous.

Let me give you an example.

Some person choked while eating at certain resturant eating pasta.

You may think of 2 things. That resturant caused people to death or Pasta can cause you to choke to death.

As a matter of fact, death in God's eyes is temporary. God sent Jesus to cross because that is part of his plan. God punished certain individuals to death, it is also his plan. Their death will be judged by God later on. God wanted us to value more on eternity rather than live on earth. However, killing yourself or someone else not for God's sake is a murder. Of course, you may have lots of debate about WAR, famine and so on. After all, this world is not perfect. When you come to think about why God didn't end the world sooner, you will see God's mercy.

So, if there is death in the resturant, it doesn't mean the resturant is a cursed place or pasta is cursed food

I think this teaches that you can kill as long as you have a good reason. That's what lesson I take from these stories. Good thing I'm not a Christian and don't take the Bible literally or a lot of people may be in trouble.

Doesn't God kill EVERYBODY eventually? Did you really think that you would live forever?

Why do people get upset when God decides to "play god" with human life? Isn't that God's job? To play god, that is (he IS god, after all). God made life, so God has the right to take it back again. Humans cannot make life, nor can we give it, so it is wrong for us to "play god" and murder people since it is not our place to do so.

People ask this question all of the ime. The standard answer is always, it is God's universe, so it is his rules.

Elisha Is Jeered
23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. "Go on up, you baldhead!" they said. "Go on up, you baldhead!" 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths.

god killed more humans then satan ever did. god also is jelous, angry and murderous (by definition of bible) annndd, it says in the bible god created evil. (do you guys think that something 100% righteous, create soemthing that isnt? wouldnt even the idea of creating evil be an unholy or non-pure thing to do?)

The Old Testament commandment 'Thou shalt not kill' refers to those of the same faith, ie the insider group, you are free to smite as many Canaanites as you like. It's a bloodthirsty business this religion stuff (remember he is a jealous God).

The OT's hypocrisy makes more sense if you realize that it was written for the Jewish people about the Jewish people. You can kill other people, but don't kill other Jews unless they break God's laws (in which case they relinquish their divine rights). And according to the bible, it has always been okay for God to kill whomever "he" pleases.
