Navels take a long time to heal because the navel is on your waist, which is like the hinge of your body, it's subject to a lot of movement and you clothes constantly rub and irritate the piercing. It usually takes 3-4 months to heal, but it can take up to 12 months for some people to heal. The healing time depends on a variety of factors: health, weight, diet, clothes, and most importantly how carefully you care for it.

Washing:
Use a mild antibacterial soap (containing Triclosan), in the shower (once a day only!). Cup your hand under the piercing and soak it for 1-2 minutes, then put 1-2 drops (no more!) of the cleaning solution in your hand, lather it up and apply the lather gently to your navel. Leave the lather on for 1 minute, then soak the piercing once again and wash thoroughly to remove all the solution. Leaving the solution on your skin can cause irritation!

Salt Bath:
Dissolve half a teaspoon of sea-salt or table-salt in a quarter of a cup of boiling water. Let this cool a little, then place in a clean glass or medicine cup and lie down with it upturned on your navel for 10-15 minutes, once or twice a day. You can also use Saline solution (available at any chemist). Rinse with fresh fresh water and dry throroughly with a clean tissue afterwards. This process is the best way to promote healing, and the more you do it the quicker your piercing will heal.

Lastly It could be a reaction to the type of metal. Stick to Hypoallergenic nickel free Jewelry, Surgical Steel rings, 22ct Gold plated Surgical Steel rings, Sterling silver, and solid 18ct Gold rings.

Well, you shouldn't have changed the jewelry. Chances are you THOUGHT it was healed but it really wasn't, so changing the jewelry wasn't the wisest of choices.

But since its changed, changing it AGAIN might make things just a bit worse. Make sure the new jewelry you bought it of good grade metal (real gold, surgical stainless steel are always the best choices) and not some tin coated piece of junk from a cheap store (watch out for jewelry that doesn't label what its made of or anything coated, always buy jewelry from trusted piercers and stores not Claire's, HotTopic, Abercrombie or stores like that). If the jewelry is of good grade, leave it it and DO NOT change it again for a while. Cheap jewelry will cause infections and inflammation in newer piercings (this means your navel) and it should be remove IMMEDIATELY and throw out. If you aren't sure about the jewelry, take it to a piercer or just remove it and change it with what it was pierced with. Plastics, glass and acrylics should also be avoided.

What you should do it go back to cleaning it regularly with mild soap and warm water and sea salt soaks and give your navel some tender loving care. Next time you get a piercing, be more careful. Navels take 6-9 months on average to heal, but can even take up to a year sometimes. So better safe than sorry, don't rush into changing the jewelry.

i have my navel pierced and i got it done in june so its been 3 onths for me too. navel piercings typically take 3 to 4 months to heal but its not uncommon for them to take a year to fully heal. so you changed your jewelry when? and it flared up? but after you changed it it was fine? that doenst make much sense... but if you just changed it you could have irritated the piercing you should do your sea salt soakss. you could also be the allergic to the jewelry or the jewelry could have not been sterilized and you could have an infection. You should start taking care of your piercing again. doing the sea salt soaks and afpercare piercing solution if you have any left) you should wait for it to settle down. if it doesnt get any better you sould go back to where you got it done and have them take a look at it.
good luck

First of all, it wasn't ready to be changed. A Belly Button piercing isn't healed for 6-12 months. This specific piercing takes the longest to heal.
I'd suggest taking a small cup or shot glass, fill it with warm water and salt, mix it and then put it over your belly button so your piercing is soaking in the salt water. Salt water usually heals any infection for a piercing.
However, if the pain persists, go to your local piercer or the person who pierced your belly button, ask them for help, and they'll probably also provide you with a product called H2Ocean which is a cleansed salt water spray to keep away infections.

Don't worry, It took like 6 months for mine to heal. Also another thing that works really great if you can afford it is to buy a gold belly button ring. I can only wear gold so I have to buy those, however my friends belly button was rele infected and scared from her first navel piercing and I gave her one of my gold ones to try and it cleared it up totally!!!

It can take 6 months to a year for a naval piercing to heal. Mine was still sore after 6 months but eventually healed no problem.

When I got my navel pierced it did the same thing. I ended up having to take it out and let it close up. It hurt and it turned red and filled with puss. I hope yours doesn't do the same. If it does go to the doctor or back to the place where you got it done and ask if there is something they can do.
