Dont know about what food, but from personal experience, I always hold onto something like a paperclip in one hand. Rub it and it makes your body focus on the friction.
Also, try standing with your legs crossed at your feet if you are standing behind a podium. That way you dont sway or tap your foot. You end up standing straight up and you dont look nervous.

Good luck!

It wouldnt be gum! I would think your favorite dish before public speech would be a good thing to go with. Cause its one of those things you just feel good about knowing you have it. So maybe eating it afterwards would be the way to go just to have the incentive to say screw the speech let me go eat.

The best cure of public speeches that I have come across is this, if you know in and out what you are talking about then that will dead alot of the anxiety. Take whatever subject you know A TON about and think about how you would feel if someone say asked you a question about it or challenged your view about it. Being you are heavily dedicated to this material you would easily inform or argue your points. Thats how you should try to approach this, learn whatever it is you are talking about that way you can do 1 of 2 things.

1. You can inform them to the point where every question has been answered and they're like just looking with amazement that whoa every angle is covered.

2. Have them saying well this is boring, but at least you got everything across that they would need to know. Cause frankly you can't expect everyone to like what you are talking about cause if someone sat up infront of me and talked baseball I would be bored within 1 minute of the speech cause well I dont like baseball. But if he put something interesting in there maybe I may learn something.

Try a cup of peppermint tea. The peppermint relaxes the digestive system, so won't have so many butterflies. I've heard oregano helps too, but good luck finding that in a tea rack at a coffee shop.

Personally, I do oxygen deprivation.

I hold my breath for as long as I can. This reduces the oxygen in my bloodstream (but not to the point where I am ready to pass out), and it relaxes me to give that speech.

Sage tea gets rid of anxiety. You can take Sage pills also, a few hours before you need to speak in public.
