I own some pet pigeons and about 3 years ago my favourit pigeon was taken by a coopers hawk, I loved her so dearly she always followed me around outside and danced towards me..I still miss her very much she was also a great breeder as a mother.

I seen another hawk over my pigeons today.. what can I do too keep these birds away?

I have heard of hawk traps where can I get one?

I swear that hawk better not go near my birds or it won't live to see another day!!!

Just kidding lol I would never hurt it lol, so any sugestions on how to keep this preditore away from my little beautiful flock of roller pigeons?

Thanks.

Oh boy

You have a predator who is looking at your pets as prey. In the wild Pigeons are often a Fave of Hawks.

First you should know that you can not legally interfer by trapping, trying to trrap or harming the hawk.. however much a pain he may be.

They are protected and some are even endangered..

I really doubt plastic owls will scare him off

You can trty typing plastic grocery bags near wher ehe lands as the noise of the wind rattlin them will disturb him.. but it may bother your birds as well if its too close....

Also mylar balloons will sometimes keep them away

Fact is if this hawk has it in his mind that hes going to hunt there .. he will be VERY hard to move off

and even once you have not seen him.. does not mean hes not still around so be careful..

You might trty contacting a raptor Center near you or a Falconry person a they may have good ways that have worked for them!

Good Luck

If your pigeons are flying loose there is no way to stop it, there may be ways to stop it while they are in their aviary by hanging old Cd's (shiny side up) and other deterrents for a few weeks before you let them out and once you are sure this bird is put off it will be almost safe to let your birds out. However it will never be totally safe, these hawks are opportunistic and will take risky chances when they see them.

Protect the pigeons as best you can. Hawks never nest in any particular area for very long unless there is an abuntant food supply. When the hunting gets bad they leave.

You can try getting plastic (still or animated) owls to place around where you keep your birds. I've found that the animated owls work the best... more 'lifelike', and more likely to scare the hawks away.

regrettably, you are able to't kill or harm those birds in any way. interior the US, all close by migratory birds are secure below federal regulation (Migratory fowl Treaty Act), and birds of prey are extra secure with the help of countless state and federal rules. it is illegitimate to kill any secure fowl, different than interest species taken in an authorized way with the help of an authorized hunter for the period of the acceptable searching season. it is likewise unlawful to harm or harass any secure fowl, or intrude with its nesting. The penalty for violating the Migratory fowl Treaty Act incorporates fines of as much as $500 and reformatory time of as much as six months; for birds of prey, the outcomes could be lots larger. the final factor to do isn't fly your birds whenever you spot hawks interior the section, and confirm that as quickly as they're of their shed, the shed is predator-evidence. regrettably, as you reported, it is inevitable once you have pigeons - or the different loose-flying or loose-ranging fowl - which you will lose a number of them to predation.

Keep em in a cage, or under a net of some sort. Or dress them in spiky leather jackets.
