early childhood education gives great rewards shows that high quality education before a child turns five yields significant long-term benefits.
i would like to think that i have contributed in individuals who were enrolled in a quality preschool program ultimately earned up to $2,000 more per month than those who were not. Young people who were in preschool programs are more likely to graduate from high school, to own homes, and have longer marriages.
the pay isnt the greatest but it could be worse
i enjoy the working hours and vacation time

I chose to pursue a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education for many reasons. I went to school most of my life in a school district in South Carolina that is less than perfect. I attended both the local public and private school. I had the opportunity to observe many different kinds of teachers. Oddly enough the ones that made the biggest impression were the bad ones. School districts such as this one need help. They need caring, mature, teachers that will strive to teach the "unteachable" and do the best job that they can. Many of the children in my school district were poor African American children who many of the teachers (including the African American ones) deemed hopeless. I am white but many of these people were my friends. To hear such things disgusted me. I could not believe that educators were saying such things about the students that they were supposed to care about.

I also attended the local private school for a few years. When most people think of private schools they think about the elite, smart, upper class. However, most of the students that attended this school were there solely for the reason that their parents did not want them in school with the black children. I could not endure the racism and the various cliques that existed at this school. The books they used were used when my mother went to school there. The library was a joke. The teachers were not certified to teach (most of them still are not) and one of the teachers in particular thought that it would be a good idea to pick on certain students and talk about her sex life in front of them.

I want to be a positive influence on these children. I can relate to what these children go through everyday. I feel that it is my duty to give them the education they deserve and show them that the world does not hate them. They can succeed. Most of all I want them to know that someone cares and understands.

Pros - You get to work with children Cons - You have to work with children Really, if you love being a teacher, then the career is great. And it really needs to be filled by people who are devoted and dedicated, and who love it. But you won't ever make a lot of money with it unless you can get into private education of some sort.

working with young children is a blast. At that age it is important that they have a good feeling about education. This is the best time to make children love school. MOST OF ALL I WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERNCE IN YOUNG CHILDRENS LIFE

Partly because I fell into it, mostly because it's so rewarding. Yeah, the pay's bad. Yeah, the work's hard sometimes. Yeah, it's back-breaking and heart-breaking work that takes up far more time than you're paid for... but it's all worth it. Every second of every day is worth it when one of my class comes to me and hugs me "just because". It's all worth it because there's nothing in the world like a youngster's smile or hearing a child say "I love you", and knowing that it came from 'nowhere'.

The children under my care may not be mine - but they're /so/ mine. ;)
