if it's just a theory?

"In science, a theory is a proposed description, explanation, or model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation. It follows from this that for scientists "theory" and "fact" do not necessarily stand in opposition. For example, it is a fact that an apple dropped on earth has been observed to fall towards the center of the planet, and the theory which explains why the apple behaves so is the current theory of gravitation. Through experiments, we know ABC to be true, but that still doesnt Prove anything about what happened 13 billion years ago. Does it?

In layman’s terms, if something is said to be “just a theory,” it usually means that it is a mere guess, or is unproved. It might even lack credibility. But in scientific terms, a theory implies that something has been proven and is generally accepted as being true.

Scientific Law: This is a statement of fact meant to explain, in concise terms, an action or set of actions. It is generally accepted to be true and univseral, and can sometimes be expressed in terms of a single mathematical equation. Scientific laws are similar to mathematical postulates. They don’t really need any complex external proofs; they are accepted at face value based upon the fact that they have always been observed to be true.

Some scientific laws, or laws of nature, include the law of gravity, the law of thermodynamics, and Hook’s law of elasticity.

Hypothesis: This is an educated guess based upon observation. It is a rational explanation of a single event or phenomenon based upon what is observed, but which has not been proved. Most hypotheses can be supported or refuted by experimentation or continued observation.

Theory: A theory is more like a scientific law than a hypothesis. A theory is an explanation of a set of related observations or events based upon proven hypotheses and verified multiple times by detached groups of researchers. One scientist cannot create a theory; he can only create a hypothesis.

In general, both a scientific theory and a scientific law are accepted to be true by the scientific community as a whole. Both are used to make predictions of events. Both are used to advance technology.

The biggest difference between a law and a theory is that a theory is much more complex and dynamic. A law governs a single action, whereas a theory explains a whole series of related phenomena.

You can't "prove" anything in science, except in the field of mathematics. Evolution by Natural Selection is a scientific theory, like the Theory of Gravity. And in a similar way to the way gravity is so abundantly observed, evolution is abundantly observed. The Theory of Gravity, and the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection are far and away the best explanations for these observations.

Many people don't want to think that evolution is true, hence they spread propaganda against it (like it is "just a theory" - theory means something completely different in Science). But the reality is evolution is "proved" as much as anything can be proved in science.

You can observe evolution in real life. Using cultures of bacteria, you can begin to add chemicals dangerous to those organisms and over time see how those bacteria with resistance survive, and those who are weak do not. This is natural selection and the essence of the theory of evolution.

Don't confuse 'theory' with 'hypothesis': the former refers to a hypothesis that has been determined to be true in all experiments so far. And becuase you can't actually empirically prove that anything is false, this is the closest we have to a sense of 'truth'.

Evolution is without a doubt the most hated theory ever published.

So many people who are a hell of a lot smarter than us would love to sink it. That includes scientists aswell who would become instantly world famous if they could disprove evolution. The fact that it is still here and going strong after a hundred years of being attacked right from day 1 is proof enough for me.

Evolution is voodoo science that has never been proven. When a scientific theory is proven, it is then called a Law, but evolution is still just a thoery. And the dictionary says a theory is a guess. Of course, scientists like to use their 'special' dictionary to avoid the truth about that.

All that talk about primoral soup and lightning strikes are all unproven guesses. They have no proof that any big bang even happened.

Life can't evolve from non-life, and that means evolution can't explain how the very first life form, whatever it was, came into existence.

Darwin has made a monkey out of all the evolutionists. And finding out they have been deceived by Darwin makes them as mad as an ape.

By using your five senses to look at the world, nature, fossils, and reading books on the subject, then making up your mind from that. Either there is plenty of compelling evidence or their isn't. If you think there is, then that should be proof enough to continue to function in the world.

Expecting science to provide concrete answers to every single question you can devise, no matter how poor, and then resorting to and insisting upon mystical non-answers from your religion is not rational thinking.

Science takes time: digging, observation, theorizing and revising. It's on ongoing process. People are spoiled by the lies of religion which purport to explain "everything," 100%, forever. The difference is the honesty of evidence. Either you want to be told what the truth is, or you want to find out the truth for yourself.

There's such a vast amount of proof I suggest you research it in a library or on the net. The information is out there and easy to find. Of course the last time I listed scientific sites for a Christian, her Preacher told her not to read it so I don't go to that trouble any more.

Everything is just a theory, you prove evolution just as you prove any theory by gathering evidence and fitting it to a hypothesis.

Not only do we have cast iron proof of evolution it is one of the best tested theories we have, way more so than such hard physical theories such as those of gravity or relativity.

There is increasing evidence in fossils, but the most compelling is the evidence found in DNA. A book by Biologist Sean Carroll entitled "THE MAKING OF THE FITTEST: DNA AND THE ULTIMATE FORENSIC RECORD OF EVOLUTION" shows how DNA evidence allows scientists to trace the course of evolution from species to species, along the branches of the evolutionary tree.

Evolution is a fact. The Theory of Evolution is only a theory. That humans evolved from lesser life forms is considered a fact by all reputable scientists. The exact steps of the evolutionary process are the only things debated. Xians have spread lies about this excessively.
