An open fracture is one that ruptures the integment or skin tissue. The calcaneous is the heel of the foot. This bone is very hard to heal because it has less blood supply. I broke this bone in my foot. I was not able to walk for about 6 months. My suggestion is to excercise to increase blood flow to the area. Elevate it and use SEM muscle stimulator to stimulate blood flow to the area.

Calcaneal fractures often results from a fall from a height such as a fall off a ladder, and landing on one or both heels. The force that causes this type of injury may also damage the hip, pelvis and/or spine. there are some treatment options for it:
1- Non operative treatment:
a- contraindications to open reduction:
- smoking patient who is unwilling to immediately quit smoking;
- vasculopath:
- with advanced age, diabetes, or questionable vascular exam, order non invasive vascular studies;
