Since I'm not chasing my grandchildren everyday anymore, I'm getting pudgy and tire too easily. I also think a bit of exercise would make me feel better. But, I have never liked exercise and have hesitated my whole life when it came to gyms, workout videos, etc. What groups or activities should I seek out that I would enjoy?

Well people have all ready said walking and as for exercise you don't have to do stuff that is to strenuous. You could ride a bike, hike, have your grandchildren over again :), golf, play tennis, go bowling, swim, find some to go to the gym with. Fun stuff that is also exercise.

Studies show that the walking 10,000 steps a day program does not affect heart health or weight. You need to do exercise that raises your heart rate, and makes you breathe harder to the extent where you cannot finish a sentence, for at least 5 minutes a day (about 500 steps, I think). So if you're walking, find a route that has some inclines, and walk up a couple going as fast as you can.

Another great way of exercising is gardening. If you don't have a garden, or fancy something more ambitious, there are conservation projects that run Green Gyms in the UK - the Sierra Club may have something similar in US. You can contribute to the preservation of the environment (rebuild a drystone wall, for example), meet people, and get healthy in the open air.

Walking is great exercise - walk the dog everyday... If you don't have a dog, walk around the mall or around a park every once in a while. Other than that, you could try different types of workout videos to see what you like.... yoga is pretty good.

I recommend getting used to being "pudgy" and "tired". If you don't like exercise, you'll never stick with an activity long enough to do any good.

Since someone already suggested walking, how about taking ball room dance classes? Or tango, or salsa or whatever sounds fun to you? This way, you also get to meet new people.

dance around your house. put on music you like and go with it. dancing burns calories, pumps blood to the brain, invigorates you, and you can do it anytime. I do still chase grandchildren around. I make them walk everywhere we can, and I teach them everyday to dance their heart out.

lol

you're just like my grandma.. she absolutely hates to exercise.. i had to drag her out of her trusty rocking chair and force her to walk around our house.. walking seems to have helped her maintain her ideal weight.. coupled with the right diet of course..

so try walking briskly.. it will help.
