Define your needs first. RX8 is sportier but doesn't get great mileage from the rotary. The maxima offers enough performance for most people with the convenice of 4 real doors and seats.

Like I said, define your needs and then look at what you simply want

Oh and do not listen to "Browing". The Maxima has MORE power than the RX8. Maxima is not quite as fast(Just barely) but has more HP and is slower due to the extra weight.....

07 Maxima = 255 HP
07 RX8 = 232 HP

Same as 06 model.

Also Mazda ha dto reduce the advertised HP number due to the new stand use to measure HP. Nissan did not which means the 255 advertised HP is probably a tad underated

I own a 2006 Maxima and it is the best all round car I have ever owned. It is sporty and fast. I think it is stylish yet it still carries 4 adults maybe even 5 adults comfortably. It is loaded with standard features that are options on other cars. I don't know anything about the Mazda so I won't comment or compare but the Maxima is an excellent choice for an all round vehicle.

RX-8 is speedier IF it has a instruction manual transmission. If computerized, the Maxima is speedier. They the two attain 155mph. The Mazda handes lots greater efficient, yet won't be able to be pushed in snow and is slippery in rain, on a similar time as the FWD Maxima would not have problems with that. The Maxima is greater effective, greater sturdy, greater low-value to repair or take care of, greater luxury, greater gentle. So usual, the Maxima is greater efficient. yet for the race music, the Mazda is greater efficient.

Sedan or sports car? Torque or revolutions. Pistons or rotors Valves or no valves. Gas mileage or horrible gas mileage.
You would think the sports car being lighter weight would get gas mileage but you would be wrong. Feature packed bluetooth hands free phone and interior and trunk room Maxima with the five speed automatic really runs good. It wou't quite corner as good as the RX-8 but it is what you will drive to the airport to pick up relitives in the RX-8 is to small inside for four adults.

I tuned nissans for a few years and i love them. That said if you want a sports car, buy the mazda, it is way more powerful, and have way better handling ( 50/50 weight distribution).
If you have a family, you should buy the Nissan

With a tuning shop (not a mechanic shop) that specializes in Rotary engines (please reserch rotaries before buying) you can almost double the engines output for under a 1000 dollars...
And turbo charging a rotary is like child's play.

I wish nissan still made a real sport compact....

hm well i would definately go with the rx8. way sexier and has the same horses to weight ratio as the maxima. a six speed gearbox too! thats all kinds of fun but then again you can find a 6spd maxima too. rx8 is cheaper...rx8 is rear wheel drive which is definately more fun. maxima has four doors so works for the family. rx8 is my pick though its just so fine!

If you want a weekend canyon cruiser that holds two, breaks a lot and chips your teeth when you go over potholes, get the Mazda.

For praticality, dependability, economy and all around usefulness... get the Maxima!
