Most of the other replies sound right, I think there is a good chance he has got periodontal disease (gum disease). He needs to visit the Dentist quickly and then probably see the Dental Hygienist in order to save what teeth are left. He may need some antibiotics, x-rays to check for bone loss and possible perio surgery depending on how far gone the gum disease is. Good luck and don't hang about - book an appointment pronto!

He'll be toothless before long. I had gum disease and didn't even know it. Then my teeth started falling out so after I lost a few I figured maybe I should have a dentist take a look. It was too late to save most of mine so I just had them all pulled. No teeth isn't so bad tho. At least the disease will go away once all his teeth are gone.

Sounds like he had an abscess and ignored it. The infection ate the bone away supporting the teeth and the teeth fell out.
