ONLY ophthalmic grade is sterile and pure enough to be usable on a cat.

Ok...vet's not an option. Let's go from there. Call your local animal shelter or ASPCA. Explain to them your situation: it's a stray/feral cat that you're attempting to help, the cat belongs to a neighborhood hoarder, you have a friend whose down on her luck and doesn't have the funds to go to the vets, and you can't help her out financially, whatever it is, tell them.. Very often the shelter has a vet tech on staff who can easily diagnose and treat such a case (is the kitten sneezing?). Most shelters won't require you to sign the cat over (too many shelters are overcrowded this time of year and probably wouldn't be able to take the cat anyway), and they shouldn't rebuke you for not taking her to the vets. You may find, however, that the price you'll pay for free care is a lecture, well...suck it up, nod politely and thank them when they're done.

Good luck!

Some home remedies may work, but kittens and infections can be dangerous. If you cannot afford a vet, then see if the local animal shelter offers a low or no cost animal clinic. Some animal shelters will give free vet care to animals. If you are babysitting kitty, then try that.

If the cat is a stray you are caring for, and you cannot afford a vet, then you really can't afford a cat and it would be better off at a no-kill shelter. There is no penalty for taking an animal there, however, if someone found out that an animal in your care needed medical attention and you didn't give it, then you could be charged with animal cruelty.

Not your cat? Then give it to the animal shelter.

The vet should ALWAYS be an option. Whome evers cat this is should be caring for it. With animals comes responsibility, its like having a child.

Suck it up and take it to the vet...or to a shelter...dont just sit there.

why is the vet not an option? no money? then take it to a shelter or sign it over to a clinic where they'll take care of it! Don't let it suffer!!
