Hi. I am 230 lbs and I would like to weigh 115 lbs. I am exactly 5 feet tall. When I was 18 I weighed 90lbs. I gained weight when I was 20 very fast because of medication. I got up as high as 308 lbs. I lost some weight since then but I have been at a standstill for a long time. What should I do to lose the rest of it? Thank you for your answers.

See if your doctor can get you in to see a dietician or a nutritionist. He or she can tell you what and how much you should be eating. One of the biggest things you can do -- and it is a wrench but you get used to it -- is to give up all sweets and as much greasy stuff as you can. If there's any in your house, get rid of it and stop buying it. This is a big one because a lot of people eat when they're upset. try to train yourself to do other things like read or, better yet, exercise!

That brings me to the second part. If you can, join a gym. In some areas, it's not too expensive to do this and some can even give you a special entry card or something so you can exercise whenever you want. (I don't know about you, but I absolutely hate exercising in front of other people.) Don't push yourself too hard, but half an hour of walking either "for real" or on a treadmill will help you. Just make sure to keep it at a comfortable pace -- not soo fast you absolutely cannot breath, but fast enough that you couldn't go off on a monologue. Stock your CD or MP3 player, if you've got one, with good exercise music. I tend to like fast and bouncy stuff like the Decemberists, the Kinks and stuff like that, but that's just me. And don't let anyone tell you that you have to wear short-shorts and a sports bra. I do all my exercising in long yoga pants and big, old tee-shirts. Not pretty, but hey. It works.

So, basically, it comes down to what lots of people have said all along -- eat less, exercise more.

Good luck in trying to lose weight! I hope everything goes well for you and I hope this has been helpful for you.

I also gained weight (more than 20 lbs) from taking medication and it was very depressing. Last year I saw Mireille Guiliano on Oprah and I was motivated to lose weight. I stopped taking the medication and bought her book "French Women Don't Get Fat". I followed her instructions for 1 month and really saw the results. I'd been very active...exercising and such... all my life, but even though I was exercising I couldn't lose the weight - not until I stopped taking the medication. I already knew how to lose weight and maintain it, but reading her book gave me new hope because I'd been depressed from the weight gain for so long. The book is not really a "diet" book, but a life-changing way of eating and enjoying your food. Good luck to you!

Really will power is the most valuable thing in life. Make yourself eat small portions of health foods like whole grains, fruit, veggies. Try a detox program before you start anything, that way you can start fresh. You must also apply exercise to you daily, yes daily life. Without exercises, you will go nowhere. It won't be an easy or quick process, but it really is the only option without surgery. If you take diet pills, you will gain the weight right back if you stop taking them, plus, they are all harmful to your body, but you can try taking a multi- vitamin, it will help curve your cravings.

Good Luck!!!!!!!

Talk to a doctor and/or nutritionist. Drastic weight loss and gain can put a major strain on your body, particularly your heart. So a doctor can help you decide the right fitness plan. It will probably involve changing your diet and choosing an exercise plan that's right for you. They will also help you set reasonable goals and can help you find the right support system to reach them. I would suggest also looking at Weight Watchers or programs offered by your local gym and/or community centers.

Everyone's body is different, so you want to make sure you get an expert's opinion on what is right for you and yours.

Because you wish to lose a significant amount of weight, you may want to talk to your Dr for advice. I think the best way to really lose pounds is with both diet and exercise. My mom lost 200+lbs by just cutting back on portions and making exercise a part of her everyday life.

Lots of exercise is the number one importance. Controlling your portions and cutting out sugar and potatoes, rice and starchy foods is always very important. Consult your doctor for specific programs. Good luck!

try buying the paul mckenna book and cd he is very good and only has four rules
1. eat what you want
2. only eat when you are hungry (if you find yourself allways hungry drink a glass of water before you eat sometimes your body confuses thirst with hunger)
3.savour every mouthfull (chew slowly)
4.when you think you're full-stop
