Black tea has a natural ingredient which is a bit making a dyeing effect. It darken hair while it adds shine and pretty highlights. Simply brew two cups of strong tea and use to rinse damp shampooed hair.Do be aware that very strong black tea can cause tan-like staining of skin.

But using it alone does not make a notable diference in the hair shade. However if it is mixed up with other natural ingredients, it is very effective. There is a combined natural ingredients which we had proven effective in making hair look darker, gives benefits of increasing the bulk of hair, prevents hair falling, and even makes hair growth faster.

You may be interested to try with his natural mixture:
** A cup of "black henna,"( but look for the brand which is a mixture of henna and indigo as this doesn't cause allergy.). This can be availed from Indian stores or any oriental markets.
**2 cups of plain yoghurt.
**10 strong black teabags.
**a cup of water

Soak or brew the teabags in plain water until the water turns very dark. Use such water to mix up with henna powder, and yoghurt. Mix it well. The tea and yoghurt acts to make henna release its dye. Apply it in your entire hair and wrap your hair with a towel leaving it for 6-8 hours. Wash your hair the usual way you do it with your prefered shampoo. Once your hair gets dry you will notice the difference of its color and glow.

It is said that henna coats each hair shaft with a natural, semi-permanent protein called hennatannic acid. Heat causes the hennatannic acid to cling to the proteins found in the hair. Because henna coats and seals the hair shaft, it helps protect the hair from damaging effects of sun, salt, chlorine, wind and pollution in the environment. It can help minimize split ends and acts as "hair insurance" if you spend a lot of time in the sun, surf or wind. Rather than producing dramatic color changes, henna enhances and deepens existing color.

Just be sure you are compatible with using the henna, and yoghurt as you know smells a bit sour but all the smell will be gone after the hair is washed. Do this once or twice a week and I assure your hair will get healthier.♥

I found a site using henna for hair but it uses diferent ingredients including tea as well. Check this out:

Black Tea For Hair

You should really know what you're doing when it comes to dying your hair, or get a professional. I've never tried dying my hair with black tea, but I wouldn't think it would color your hair the way you think it would, you would probably need to steep your tea till it was darker than coffee then soak your hair in it for hours. I think this is a question for the tv show Mythbusters. If anything try it on a Barbie Doll first.

People ask me all the time what do I do. So here I go:

I take one box of Logona brown umber and a box of black. I use in a plastic bowel, the entire brown umber (I have longer hair), and up to a half a box of black. I have boiled some tea in a pot in the meantime. I mix the appropriate amount of water from that tea mixture into the powder. I stir it and let it cool slightly. Its best used when hot. I apply it all over like a hair dye, making sure I don't miss areas. I put a cap on my head that comes in the kit. Then I put a hot wet towel on my head and sit under a dryer for about 20 minutes. I want to keep my hair wet and hot in the meantime. After that, I get off from under the dryer and let my hair cool down normally. About 20 to 30 minutes more for me. After that, I rinse my hair off. I wait for the next day to shampoo. This works for me. I don't get red hair and it covers the gray well, but my gray doesn't end up dark brown at all. Its lighter, like a natural brown with golden highlights. As I wash my hair thru the next weeks, the gray hair seems to get my golden and the brown goes away more. But I don't care as long as I don't see gray. It looks natural for me. For those who are more gray, they do this same routine and do it more often. You can do it twice a month if you want. You can take it just to the roots or all over. I've always thought that the Honeybee Gardens dark hair herbs would be a good substitute for the tea bags. (Some use coffee). I'm going to do that next time. Rinsing your hair daily or every other day with the hair herbs would most likely help keep the hair darker thru time and repetition. I'm still waiting to hear from customers on that. Sometimes I'll use the Chestnut Brown instead of Umber. That's a warm look that I like as well. I hope this helps!!!!

I would not personally do this to my own hair. First of all you would have to spend an hour at least to soak . Who has one hour to stuff your head in a basin of tea? I would rather drink the black tea and watch tv or read a book.
Go to a natural food store and ask them about henna powder hair color preparations. The people who manufactures the natural hair coloring mixes have been in the business for years and many women/men have used them successfully.
It takes1- 5 minutes to comb it thru, leave in for 15minutes, and then wash it out. The resulting change of color to your hair stays on for 6-8 weeks.
Tea , especially if it is very steeped for more color, will also color your clothes if you sweat. Oh and if you sweat (excuse me, ladies dont sweat they "mist or dew"), tea will fall off your brow !!! Oh horrors. How will you explain that?

Henna is a much milder dye than "commercial" dyes. And is a natural product, so doesn't damage like things with bleaching agents do. (But, if you decide you want to dye later on top of it, you should consult with a professional - it can react strangely to dye.)

Tea will work, but it's subtle. If you only want a little darkening, it should work (But it's not strong enough to cover grays.) (It works like it stains teeth! If it can do that to your teeth, hair is much more porous, right?) You need to make a super strong mix and leave it in for probably 20 minutes (plastic shower cap on your head.) You may need to repeat several times to achieve the color you want.

I drink tea everyday. I make it everyday here at home using the regular tea bags. It turns dark in the water
however I never thought of using it on my hair. I would guess it may change your hair color slightly but as soon as you rinse your hair it's going to all come out. Use dyes that have no ammonia or peroxide in it.

I soaked my hair with tea once, and all I got was tea grains in my hair. Color in a box, or by a professional, is the way to go. Good luck!

Dyeing your hair darker will NEVER damage it....unless you already have bleaching or highlights. The only coloring that damages your hair is lightening.
I used to do highlights and bleaching all the time. I got bored with it and started going a little darker instead. My hair has never been healthier!
