They are both prefessional Chefs, so they don't need anything for the kitchen and already own a home that is well furnished. I don't feel like I can show up empty handed and would hate to give them a gift certificate, any ideas??

Youre absolute best bet is to ask a member of the wedding party or one of the happy couple's parents (or even the happy couple themselves). Many couples that dont register are hoping to receive money (they can use anywhere, for anything). They might have everything else they need, but might have a tight time after the wedding itself.

Contrary to some beliefs, there is no monetary rule for a wedding gift. (It is NOT the amount of money spent on the reception divided by the number of guests, or a set price per person in your party, nor is it based on the cost of your dinner.)
If it is your family you may wish to give something more heartfelt and memorable.

A gift should be a token of affection and good-will - freely given. It doesn't have to be large or expensive. By sending a gift you acknowledge the joyous occasion.

In all honesty, even though they're both chefs, there is ALWAYS something more they want for the kitchen. Anything from maybe an ice cream maker to the latest cookbooks, or books just to relax. Or DVD's to relax. I know you don't want to give a GC, but think about one from amazon.com. They have everything and it would be like their own little registry when they feel like shopping for something new.

Heck, I'd be thrilled with an amazon gift certificate!

There is a reason why they didn't registar... they don't need anything.

If you want to give them something, pick out a nice card and put some cash in it.

If you don't want to look empty handed walking in the door, put the money in a wooden box (maybe with a nice engraved wedding wish) and put it in a larger box full of popcorn. Wrap the big box nicely and put the card on top! This way... it looks like you bought a big present and it's a fun gag surprise for them when they open it - having to dig through lots of popcorn to get to the real present! :)

Give them a gift card from American Express or Visa. Extra money always helps, and its a little more thoughtful than just cash.

I always like giving picture frames. You could even get one engraved to be more personal. Depending on your relationship to them, you could get them a nice figurine.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of giving gift certificates, either.

I'd agree, either give the couple cash or if they are giving a hint as not wanting gifts because they haven't registered, you might want to make a donation to a charity in their name.

Give them cash. I know a lot of people don't like giving this for some reason but we used the money we got at our wedding to help pay for our honeymoon. It was very nice to not have to dip into our savings to pay for our honeymoon.

I hate to say it, but sometimes a gift card or just cash is better than receiving some random gift that you didn't ask for. My friends who didn't do a registry just wanted money for their honeymoon.

They will appreciate it if you give them gift cert. or even cash to help them with the expenses or whatever... I know it sounds tacky to give cash, but it's really a huge help for the bride and groom.

A gift certificate or Cash.

Truthfully, if they did not register they want something money can't buy-- the money itself.
