I think you can tell about its sixth week as it gets fat and nearer its time it will look for a dark corner and probably deliver during the night about 9 weeks

As a dog breeder (you can view mine at www.cockerspanielsandgermanshepherds.com) I can put my 2 cents in on this one.

Like mentioned a gestation period for a dog is roughly 60 days (more along the lines of 62-63). For the smaller dogs you can usually tell visually by the time they are 4 weeks along; or you can take them to the vet to have a sonogram or xray done. There are also blood pregnancy tests that can be done on them. For large breeds it can take up to the 6th week sometimes.

It really does depend on the individual dog! I have one that never looks pregnant until the last week of her pregnancy; others look like huge balloons at 5 weeks.

Her nipples will start to swell and get larger; if it is early the skin will sort of sag where it doesn't have milk yet. She will be swollen from behind to make room for the puppies birth. The skin across the stomach gets tight early; then she starts to swell in her belly.

But all in all if you don't want to go to the vet count on 4-6 weeks.

Usually from the time a dog is bred it takes 56 to 63 days for delivery and you can usually tell if she is pregnant by the 6th week depending on the litter size.If having only one or two pups it is difficult to tell until near the end.A female carries pups for approxmiately 9 weeks and if big litter, she will deliver early most of the time.

Really depends on the dog. A lot of people say you can't tell till the end and some say they show signs right away. They are kind of like humans, they progress through pregnancy in their own way.

A dog's gestation period is approximately 60 days so the dog won't have to wait much longer than that.

Or the person who owns the dog can take it to a vet.
