Ok, so when my grandma (my mom's mom) was younger she gave birth to a daughter. She wanted to marry the father of the baby, but he said absolutely not unless she gave the girl up for adoption. So, she did. They got married and went on to have 4 other kids. I would like to find my aunt. I can't ask my grandma any questions because she is so ashamed at what she did back then (the marraige never worked out either). So, I know what the biological mother and fathers name was and what state she was born in, but that's all I know. Does anyone know of anyway to go about finding her??? Would prefer a free way, but if not something fairly cheep. Can anyone help??

She was born in New York. I think it was in Buffalo since my grandma has lived in the same house forever, but not positive on the city.

I would begin by finding out who the baby was handed to, was it someone in teh hospital or at a specific orphanage? If it was at the hospital, your best bet would be to contact that hospital and see what type of records they have on those type of "transfers" done back then. If the baby was taken to an orphanage I would start by locating them if they are still there, they would have had to keep some type of records there as well. You can also go to the directory of that state and type in the name or I know this may sound dumb but even google it. Who knows, your aunt may be trying to find you guys too. Good luck to you and your family with this!!

Look you need a starting point. Obviously that starting point would be social services. There are so many confidentiality issues in place here it may take the cooperation of your grandmother, or you may have to hire an attorney to help you. Then if the records are sealed you are talking some major legal expenses to get those documents open. If you know the little girls first name you can do a search on a people find site and may get a little help. If you can find out where the father of the child is living now, maybe he will tell you where the child is. Most of the time after a child is put up for adoption the biological parents do not even know where the child was placed and with whom. Lastly hire a private investigator. They do not come cheap, so be aware of this. Situations like this are so sad, sometimes you get lucky, other times people never find out where someone is.
