As has been asked and answered numerous times in the past few weeks here on R&S...

According to Genesis 5 Adam and Eve had sons and daughters. According to Flavius Josephus Adam had 33 sons and 23 daughters. In those early days it was not considered "incest"; it became considered "incest" only when God declared it was.

Often, apparent inconsistencies can be resolved if we just look at the context. Consider, for example, the often-raised problem about Cain’s wife. As is well known, Cain killed Abel; but after that, we read that Cain had a wife and children. (Genesis 4:17) If Adam and Eve had only two sons, where did Cain find his wife?

Where did Cain get his wife? Is there a logical Bible answer?

Yes, there is. It is pointed to in the very instructions given to Adam and Eve shortly after their creation, namely: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it.” Gen. 1:28.

Obedience to this command would require that Adam and Eve have children. Then these children, in turn, would marry and bear children. This process of reproduction by succeeding generations would need to continue in order to fill the earth in harmony with God’s purpose.

The solution lies in the fact that Adam and Eve had more than two children. According to the context, they had a large family. At Genesis 5:3 we read that Adam became father to another son named Seth and then, in the following verse, we read: “He became father to sons and daughters.” (Genesis 5:4) So Cain could have married one of his sisters or even one of his nieces.

At that early stage of human history, when mankind was so close to perfection, such a marriage evidently did not pose the risks for the children of the union that it would today.

It is probable that, while yet alive, Abel had sisters; the record mentions the birth of daughters to his parents, but their names are not recorded. (Ge 5:1-4)

Cain went into banishment in “the land of Fugitiveness to the east of Eden,” taking with him his wife, an anonymous daughter of Adam and Eve. (Ge 4:16, 17) also the much later example of Abraham’s marriage to his half sister Sarah.

Adam and Eve lived almost 1000 years. Cain and Able were their first children but they produced many children. When their children were of childbearing age they married each other and moved to farm other territories.

God told Cain to change his ways and knew he had a bad attitude. But Cains jealousy made him kill his brother. They may have been hundreds of years old by then.

Cain was banished from the area where he killed Able he went where his brothers and sisters lived. He found one to marry and had children of his own.

God told Adam to be fruitful and fill the earth. Adam was a perfect man. Even after they disobeyed God and were thrown out of the Garden of Eden they were still almost perfect.

Eve being almost perfect may have had multiple births and so might her daughters. So there was a great many people on earth by the time Adam's children died since it would have been nearly 2000 years.

As time went by God stopped close relations marriages because they were getting farther from being perfect and birth defects would begin . God forbid incest in the Law Covenant he gave to the Isrealites. After that you could not marry closer than a fourth cousin

Cain took one of his sisters, since they were the only ones on the earth. This is the only time that God did allow brothers and sisters to inbreed with one another. The genes will still pure, because God allowed this as well. This is so that mankind would not have any problems with populating the Earth. As you know now with today's genetics any incest among family members can cause horrible defects to babies that our born. So like I said, God only allowed brothers and sisters to have sex together in order to populate the Earth.

Once mankind got to a point where there were enough people, that is when the genetics became impure and were altered.

Noah's sons had wives which were not their sisters. So I would say it was by that point in time that the genetics became impure, maknig incest a sin.

Nod literally is translated the Land of Fugitiveness. It simply refers to the area he went to away from the rest of his family. After that Cain established a city. (Genesis 4:17) Cain married one of his sisters. (Genesis 5: 4,5)

Hello jason d.. :)

I was asked this question once, I prayed about it and the Lord spoke to my heart to look up the Land of Nod in the dictionary..

Genesis 4

16 And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

Dictionary.com

Land of Nod

the mythical land of sleep.

God could have taken a rib from Cain, as He did with Adam to get Cain's wife.. :)

He lived a long time and had many children (and grandchildren).

BTW, Cain was probably already married to one of his sisters before he was cast away.

Back when the land was still young, you can grow almost anything because the Song of Creation was still lingering. Let's just say he spanked his monkey and from the ground his children sprung forth ok? Or maybe he got frisky with a forest nymph or something.

Elohim in Genesis is a plural word, including male and female, and should properly be translated "Gods" or "Pantheon."

What this means is that there were other gods creating other people in other parts of the world at the same time as the christian god was working his little experiment in the Garden of Eden.
Cain's wife was one of these other people.

Peace

The woman was his own sister, which was allowed back then in order to populate the earth. After God was satisfied with the earth's population, it was no longer acceptable by God.
