You don't need to worry about your baggage. You'll see that again once you get to Beijing.
Get off the plane and follow the signs for connecting flights. this takes you back into the main departure area of the airport where you check the Tv monitors for your flight. You then get on the plane as normal.
There is no need to go through customs, etc, unless you leave the airport.

your itinerary will tell you which airline and flight you get onto next ... first you will leave the plane in amsterdam and then depending on where the other airline is you may have to walk a ways ... you will probably go through another security checkpoint also ... your bags should automatically go to the next plane ... you can check out one of the airport flighttime monitors that will probably be everywhere and look for ur flight# and see which gate its at or you can ask anyone that works there and im sure they will point you in the right direction ... there will be signs everywhere so if ur flight is at gate A24 just follow the signs to A then look for your gate ... sit there and wait, they usually board by seat#s', so when they call your seat# group get in line with ur passport and boarding pass in hand ...slap a few people... then before you know it ur back in the air ...

Your baggage will get on the plane before you do!
All you have to worry about is getting yourself to the right gate in Amsterdam to catch your flight - just as you did after your baggage left you in Birmingham and you went trhough to departures.
Look on your ticket for the flight number - then check the screens to see which gate you need to go to.
Happy travels! Beijing is an amazing city - I'm sure you'll love it!

It depends if you are transfering flights between partners. If you are switching planes to another airline that is a partner, you do not have to pick up your baggage, they automatically transfer it for you.
If you are connecting to another flight that is seperate from the one you were just on (different airlines that are not partners), then you must get your baggage.
But if you are connecting to another flight with the same airlines in amsterdamn then you do not need to worry about a thing.

usually in the airport they sign post it transit passengers,I dont know if the security checks require you to collect your luggage but it used to be automatically transfered to your next flight without you seeing it.I suggest when you check in at birmingham you ask the desk clerk or they may even offer the information to you when you check in.

You don't have to collect luggage that is done for you - check your next flight time & boarding gate and make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to get to it as that Airport is huge and last time it took me 3/4 hour to get to my next boarding gate - chill & enjoy

No you don't get your luggage again. You just find the gate that your connection flight is coming into, and when the time comes, get on the plane.

you are asking in the U.K to send your luggage directly to your last destination.
you get off the plane and walk to the transfer counter.
they will give you new boarding pass and you go to your new flight.
do not be afraid.
it easier than it sounds
you collect your luggage in your final destination.
(if you will not find it, you will complain to the airline, but it is a seldom occurrence)
