I have made a island table out of wood and the top is ply board. The area is not that big so I was wondering is I could put ceramic tile over the board. Thanks for your assistance.

If your surface is very sturdy you can go ahead and put it down.If you were going to walk on it you would do it differently.This is light use and decorative.Go ahead

Since you're just doing a table top, you can just apply the tile to the plywood base. Just make sure the plywood is well-supported so it can't flex and possibly break your tiles. The suggestion to use a latex-based mastic and grout is a very good idea as well, since it will keep your installation flexible, without making the tile pay the price for the wood's expansion and contraction...

You can install ceramin tile over plywood but it requires some additional preparation first. Generally you will need to put down a layer of concrete backer board over the plywood. Plywood alone will have too much flex to it and the grout will crack.

yes you can but if it's a large area you would need some tile backer boards to nail down first if it's small like 3x5 bath you could use tile mastic its better on plywood

the best way to installl cermaic tile anywhere is to use a cement backer board. most home improvement stores will sell it. the mastic will stick better to the cement backer board and you will have less chance of cracking grout lines in the future.

i agree with the above answer...use durock..cement backer board,your tile job will last longer.
