It can get you that way. Unlike cigarettes, weed doesn't have the same addiction properties, so cutting down is a valid way.
I succeeded by promising myself a big fat one on Friday nights.
That way, I broke the need for daily usage.
Eventually the need for the 'Friday night one' went away

You can quit. I stopped 30 years ago. Don't go cold turkey cuz you will have side effects. Taper off over about two weeks. If you smoke six joints a day now, taper down to three after the first week, and then by the end of the second week taper down to zero. Drink a lot of fluid. Quit when you will have a weekend to relax just after the zero point. Get rest. Watch Television. If you have psychological side effects that are bothersome seek counseling. You may not have to worry you have only smoked a short time really. Good luck you will be a much healthier person after you stop.

Hi Yes, I quit a few years ago by going cold turkey. It helps if you can change your routines a bit. Take up walking, jogging, cycling or something as it gives you a great distraction and a level of fitness to aim for that you would not achieve if you carried on smoking. The mental withdrawal seems ease off after 3 or 4 days, so if you can get past the first few days, you'll be on the home straight. Stupidly, having gone through a nasty period in life I took up smoking again. It is a habbit that never leaves you so you have to fight to stay off the cigarettes. Good luck, Paul.

I used to smoke everyday too. I had to stay away from everyone that smoked for a while. It didn't take long to get over the feeling that I needed to smoke, and now that I'm over it, I feel much better and have no problem being around it. It's all in your head; if you're truly ready, it should be fairly easy.

Most likely you ARE psychologically addicted, which is just as bad as physical addiction in the fact that you get the cravings, just don't go through the physical withdrawl symptoms like a person addicted to opiates. My best suggestion to you is to take a good look at prioritizing your lifestyle. Make a list of your goals with quitting weed as number one. Then, list the reasons why.
I also strongly suggest you contact a support group like Narcotics Annonymous where you will meet others that are living clean and sober lives and dealing with life on life's terms without having to use a chemical or drug to cope. It is not a matter of willpower. Addiction to anything is a disease. Treat it as such.
Call your local AA or NA central office or hotline and they will be able to hook you up with the hotline and give you a list of meetings held in your immediate area. Be sure that you go to the meetings until you look forward to them. Do not judge, NA members come from all over the world and different walks of life, so you will find one to fit your needs. Get yourself a "sponser"
who will help you to cope with your desire to quit and how to deal with the cravings.
Good Luck and Be Well.

It's time to grow up and be an adult. Take control of your life and start realizing that pot is an excuse for people to keep from growing up. You want to smoke pot so you don't feel the responsibilities and obligations of your life, or at least don't want to admit them to yourself. Take responsibility for what you do, who you are with, how you spend your time and how you live your life. Pot, alcohol, cigarettes ... they're all crutches for those who are weak in constitution. Have the inner strength to be above poisoning yourself. Have the inner strength to strive for a better kind of life for yourself. Yeah, success comes at the price of hard work and sacrifice, but the rewards of a full life are far greater than that of an afternoon spent smoking and/or drinking.
Quit looking for excuses not to quit and either choose to be a child or an adult. You don't need my help to stop a behavior that is not addictive. Psychological addiction is a myth pot-heads tell each other to validate the continuation of a behavior that is knowingly stupid. Caffeinated beverages like Coca-Cola and coffee are more physically and "psychologically" addicting than pot. Don't put the path of your life in the hands of substances and myths. Quit lying to yourself and grow up.

the decision to stop or start smoking weed is a lifechanging one. the properties of cannabis sativa are legendary and mysterious. there is the giggly, upbeat happy high, there is the stoney brain-numbing high, and there is the sophisticated, thoughtful high. there is no feeling quite like opening a new sack and finding perfect little crystally trees, slightly reeking of fruity pines.
many people report that marijuana slightly changes their personalities, and you have to figure out if your stoner personality is as likeable/productive/intelligent as your sober personality. then you decide if quitting is worth it.
the unfortunate thing about pot is that unlike alcohol, it is hard to smoke in moderation, and not every day, five times a day.
either you get high or you don't.
decide what you want to be and resolve yourself.

Give it up to God.
If you can't, He can.
I smoked every day for 15 years, the best and strongest. Quit immediately with the help of Jesus Christ. It works. Clean for 20 years.
