I need suggestions for something tasty to make for dessert.

I'm cooking dinner for my new neighbor guy on Saturday, and I want to make something for dessert, but I don't want it to be totally obvious that I'm trying to impress him.

I am serving homemade spaghetti, green salad, and garlic bread and I have no idea what kind of dessert to make.

Any suggestions you guys have will be greatly appreciated!

If you can make it, Apple Pie is always good for us guys. Kinda wish I was your neighbor. You know, being Italian and everything. If you don't want to make it, you may be able to purchase a small Pie at a bakery or even Apple Turnovers are good.

Caramel Apple Cheesecake Recipe courtesy Paula Deen

1 (21-ounce) can apple pie filling ( I cut the apple pieces smaller)
1 (9-inch) graham cracker crust
2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, at room temperature
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
1/4 cup caramel topping
12 pecan halves, plus 2 tablespoons chopped pecans

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Reserve 3/4 cup of the apple filling; set aside. Spoon the remaining filling into the crust. Beat together the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Add the eggs and mix well. Pour this over the pie filling.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the center of the cake is set. Cool to room temperature.

Mix the reserved pie filling and caramel topping in a small saucepan and heat for about 1 minute, or until spreadable. Spoon the apple-caramel mixture over the top of the cheesecake and spread evenly. Decorate the edge of the cake with pecan halves and sprinkle with chopped pecans. Refrigerate the cake until ready to serve.

I used an already cheesecake shell and found out that the apple mixture is too much...it will drip over the sides...so the next time I made it I didn't use as much but still put a cookie sheet under the pie while baking! This is so easy to make and totally delicious!

You go girl!!! Have a great time! My vote would be something light since you will have a meal on the heavier side. Plus you don't want to have to fuss.....purchase something. You said you didn't want to be obvious so purchase something and leave the homemade dessert for another time =) I would even go purchase a chocolate angel food cake (the local grocer has them) get some strawberries and slice them over the top with some whipped cream. I actually served this after an Italian feast and everyone loved it. I don't normally like angel food cake but the chocolate was really good. Another thing you could do to stay with your theme is a fresh fruit and cheese platter with some port for dessert. Get a couple different light cheeses, apples, grapes, dried figs (us Italians like our figs!) and maybe a melon.....cut them up and serve with the port. It is light and you can take the platter into a sitting area so it is not like you are really having "dessert". You can even just do a nice fruit plate. Well I wish you luck.....have a great time.

Make a Chocoflan he will fall in Love with you trust me is coming from a man I made one for my wife here is the recipe is not hard at all. He will Love it is a chocolate cake with Flan in it delicious.

Choco Flan

Flan Portion:
5 eggs (at room temperature)
1 8oz bar of cream cheese (must be at room temperature)
1 12oz can of evaporated milk
1 14oz can of sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla
Blend ingredient to smooth consistency. I will use my food processor.

Cake Portion: Standard Devil's Food Cake mix, follow directions for batter.

The pan has to be buttered very well; then put the chocolate mix and on top carefully spoon the flan mix. If the surface of the chocolate mix gets disturbed a little bit it doesn’t matter, the two layers will flip anyway while they cook. Cover it with aluminum foil and cook in a water bath for 1h to 1 h 10 min at 375 F. It is enough if the water just reaches half the height of the pan. Check the cake with a knife until it comes clean to make sure is cooked.

After removing if from the oven let it cool down for 30 min.
Then just enjoy!!!

Cheesecake that tastes like tiramisu (italian dessert) Make the cheese cake recipe on the side of a cheesecake box, fold on about 1/2 container of whipped topping. Instead of buying a crust, soak nilla' wafers in cold coffee. Layer large casserole or clear bowl with cookies, 1/2 cream cheese mix, another layer of cookies, the rest of cream cheese mix, top with grated chocolate. Serve well chilled. Good LUCK!

Melon Trio in Lavender Champagne Syrup

3 cups cantaloupe, cut into 1-inch cubes or balls
3 cups honeydew melon, cut into 1-inch cubes or balls
1 bottle rose Champagne
3 cups sugar
1 cinnamon stick (4-inch piece)
2 star anise pods
2 vanilla beans, split
2 sprigs of dried lavender (about 2 tablespoons)
PREPARATION:
Makes 8 servings.
In a medium pot, add the champagne, sugar, cinnamon stick, star anise, and vanilla beans. Bring to a boil and continue to boil for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and stir in the lavender.

Let everything steep for about 20 minutes then transfer to the refrigerator.
Let the mixture completely cool, then strain the syrup through a sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl.
Add the three melons to the bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

To serve, scoop a portion of melon into a martini glass, wine glass, or dessert bowl. Ladle a small amount of the syrup over the fruit, just enough to cover the bottom of the glass or bowl.

Tiramusu a traditional Italian dessert.. You can buy a good version at a local Italian speciality store or bakery. If you are up for the challenge. Many good receipes can be found on the web. some more complicated than others. But it is easy to make and well worth the effort.

If you want to keep withthe Italian Menue I would go with the Italian classic, Tiramisu The recipe takes about 2 hours but it is really worth it. Or if you want a quick dessert Italian Torte never fails it's ready in about 15 min!

*Tiramisu*

INGREDIENTS
6 egg yolks
1 1/4 cups white sugar
1 1/4 cups mascarpone cheese
1 3/4 cups heavy whipping cream
2 (12 ounce) packages ladyfingers
1/3 cup coffee flavored liqueur

1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
1 (1 ounce) square semisweet chocolate
DIRECTIONS
Combine egg yolks and sugar in the top of a double boiler, over boiling water. Reduce heat to low, and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and whip yolks until thick and lemon colored.
Add mascarpone to whipped yolks. Beat until combined. In a separate bowl, whip cream to stiff peaks. Gently fold into yolk mixture and set aside.
Split the lady fingers in half, and line the bottom and sides of a large glass bowl. Brush with coffee liqueur. Spoon half of the cream filling over the lady fingers. Repeat ladyfingers, coffee liqueur and filling layers. Garnish with cocoa and chocolate curls. Refrigerate several hours or overnight.
To make the chocolate curls, use a vegetable peeler and run it down the edge of the chocolate bar.

*Italian Torte*

INGREDIENTS
1 cup ricotta cheese
3 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup miniature chocolate chips
1 (10.75 ounce) loaf frozen pound cake, thawed

Every guy I make this for signs my praises

1 prepared chocolate cookie crust (like oreo)
1 box instant chocolate pudding
1 container cool whip
1 cup peanut butter
2 tbs powdered sugar
1tsp vanilla
1/34 cups cold milk +2 to 3 tbs milk

Follow the pie filling directions on the box of pudding I think it's 1/34 cups milk
fill the bottom of the pie with the pudding
Then in a large bowl mix half the container of thawed cool whip with the pb, sugar, vanilla and the 2-3 tbs of milk. place in pie shell on top of pudding. And then top with remaining cool whip
You can also cut the calories if you use skim milk, light cool whip and reduced fat pb.
