Yes, but don't get one just because you're 18 and want a tattoo. I did that, and my first tattoo is my least favorite. Every one I have gotten since then was planned and thought about, and really means something to me. So just make sure you decide on something you really, really want, and take your time. You don't have to get one right now!

FIRST OF ALL ignore anyone who says "will you like it in 40 years?" in 40 years you probably wont even be able to bend far enough to see it. Second of all dont let anyone say "ur grandchildren wont want a grandma with tats" by the time your a grandma getting a tat will be like getting your ears pierced and I doubt any grandchildren now care if grandmas got ear rings. Tattoos are very popular now and days. Don't ever get a tat with someones name because you will regret it! I see tattoo's as sort of like a picture. It is a memory. Every tattoo has a memory and in 40 years from now, if you can see your tat, it will bring you back to what ever memory is behind it and that is something you will cherish. A tattoo shows personality. You wont regret it In 5 10 20 30 40 50 100 years from now. Like I said by then, tattoos will be so common it will be like getting your ears pierced. If you are that concerned think really hard about the tat you want. You will know when it is the perfect one. I have a lot and haven't regretted any! Hope this Helped!

Well, I think it's basically up to you. I say yes only because I have them, love how the look and feel and adore men and women with tattoos. The are just beautiful and a great way to express youself

But think about this:

What would you get? Whatever it isshould be something meaningful and long lasting in your opinion. Don't get a skull if you don't want to live with a skull being on your body. Obviously initials of your gf or bf aren't always wise. But find something you like and sit on the idea for a while

Where would you put it? Do you mind if people see it or are you worried about getting a job in the future. Your body has a lot of surface area and some places will hurt more than others, so choose wisely.

Good luck to you in your choice.

No one can tell you what to do with your body.

However, we can give you advice. When you find the design you like, see if you can get a temp made of it and wear it where you think you would like it. Do this for several months. If you still like it then, then you can really consider it.

Also, don't pick a tattoo just because it is cute. Make sure it has meaning.

I've wanted one design since I was 9. I got it when I was 18. I then took about a year to design my 2nd.

Also, think about location. Tattoos that can easily be hidden will be best. A lot of employers do not take kindly to body art.

the thing to consider when getting a tattoo is your future. what are your goals? will having a tattoo affect them in any way?
why do you want a tattoo now? if you were 30 would you still want the tattoo? keep in mind that you will change. just as you were a different person 8 years ago so you will be 8 years from now.
I have a tattoo on my left shoulder, one of a large green and silver celtic cross. i wanted this tattoo for 2 or 3 years before i got it, and have had it for 3 years. i still love it. my girlfriend tells me its sexy. i have no plans for any more tattoos, because i am going to medical school, and having too much body art would be detrimental to my career.
my best advice is to wait. you have your whole life ahead of you to get inked, so why the rush?

my first tattoo was very intimate for me! Something true to yourself and has meaning! Don't get it because some guy told you or some of your friends have some! Get it because you want it! different people have different experiences behind tattoos! SOme people hate it and some love it! I love them! I know i would never be embarassed about anything I did for myself! You should never feel embarassed unless it was something you haven't thought out. But i say Grow up and move on! My Parents aren't embarassed about their's and their in their 50's now! SO those that say it regert what they did! Everything in life is a learning process! Relax and let the needle Cradle you into a pain that turns into pleasure! Love it and accept it! If you like it go for it! If you don't wait and see who you feel in about a couple years! That's advice from my mom!

I'm 39 years old. I have two tattoos that I got when I was around 21. My beliefs have changed and although I'm not majorly bummed about my tattoos, I would rather have the $600.

If you choose to get a tat, put it where it can be covered by your regular cloths. I knew a guy that had to wear a long sleve shirt year around to work. He was less than thrilled about that.

I think if you have to ask others if you should get a tattoo, then no, you shouldn't. Not right now, anyway. Make sure the tattoo is meaningful to you and will be meaningful to you for the rest of your life. Then I would say, "Go for it!"

I love tattoos, but have none myself. I personally think a lot of people get tattoos because they are trendy. Don't make that mistake.

Best of luck!

i am also 18 and i have seen pretty ones and cute ones and cool ones. BUT the untimate question is, even if it is cool now will it be cool in 1, 5, 10, 20 50 years?!?! probably not. and do your children need to have a parent/grandparent with a tattoo? will it keep you from looking professional for a job interview? if you get one of a name, what happens if you divorce/break up with that person? i don't think i will ever get one. i wouldn't if i were you.
