AWESOME question. So many times when we "go out of our way to help someone" it's because the situation is thrust upon us rather than a conscious decision to be servant hearted. Your question really goes to the heart of the issue of Christian service. (I assume you are a Christian? But if not still an awesome question) I personally have chosen to be of service by providing free vision care for a Christian boy's home, for ministers of the Word, and for those in need sent to me by my local congregation of Christians.
I plan to retire in about 10 yrs at which time I'm thinking about getting involved in a free clinic that provides vision and medical care.

The next time that I help will be when I see some one in need. The last time I helped was as is still going on: I am looking for some replacement employees and that is not my job. (And no it will not financial benefit if I find the workers that the company needs.)

U r right!
We need to think ahead, take the opportunities rather than rest relaxed over the deeds we HAVE ALREADY done!!
We need to concentrate, open our eyes, & look for the ppl in need... This is the only way were we can actually see them as a first step to help them..
Second is take the quick decision & actually HELP.. I can remember so many situations when I felt I could have helped, but (shamfully) it didn;t come accross my mind at the time...
May God help us be better ppl & go the extra mile!

The last time was yesterday when I found someone's ID card that they had left at a gas pump, and I sent it back to the issuer so they can get it back to him.
The next time will be the next time the opportunity arises.

That would be today, around 3:00 pm. My son will be home from school, and I will be helping him with his Algebra. Not what you were hoping for, but honest.
