Addiction is the same as dependent because you brain is what tell you if you need something or not. So Like all the other ones that answers and said addiction is like alcohol Will after a while you body need that to be okay so the body is depening on it. Ever thing starts out as a addiction no matter what it is. then you body make it else need it. Even if it something good or bad for you. Here is another way to look at it. People with mental illness it on meds They were not taking them before they when to go get help butnow the have and now they have to take those meds that is a addiction and depeendent because if they stoped they would get sick and go through withdrall and they would be sick again from their illness. so you need to stop and think about how the mind work to get you answer

I use to be an addict. I was addicted to nerve and sleeping pills. When I first started taking them I needed them to sleep so i was dependent on them..Throughout time, I needed more and more and more --thence the addiction. I would have to get up in the morning and take a sleeping pill to function..I know that's odd but I was taking 30 or so sleeping pills a day to get high.

Basically, if you take it as it's prescribed and it works..it's dependent..if you have to take a LOT more than prescribed or you take it for another reason like to get high it's addiction.

Addiction is where you don't really need to have something but you constantly want to have it.

Dependence is where you can't do without something regardless if you like it or not.

Say for example, if you have diabetes, you will be DEPENDENT on Insulin shots regardless if you like it or not.

However, if you are ADDICTED to alcohol, you can and should not drink it but you just constantly can't give it up.

If someone has Diabetes and takes insulin, that is dependence.
If someone drinks enough that their life is falling apart, that is addiction.
