Engineer Software. Mechanical Engineers design and build mechanical systems and Software Engineer design and build software.

Software Engineering (SE) is the discipline of designing, creating, and maintaining software by applying technologies and practices from computer science, project management, engineering, application domains, interface design, digital asset management and other fields.

Engineering means science of making many things such as:
1) Mechanical
2) Electrical.
3) Civil.
4) Electronics.
5) Computers. and many others.
You have to use this science to our daily use in all.
The engineers in each branch create or invent things like:
1) Cars.
2) Power to your home lights & other uses.
3) Your Home.
4) Your Radio.
5) your PC.
Whatever the tools they use is over a blue print visible on paper.
How do they make the blue print you have seen the blue print of your home.Similarly Computer engineers make blue prints which is not over paper in their own tools.This is called software.
Now dont ask me what is hard ware.
To end with a joke:
ONE CHIEF MINISTER IN INDIA WAS ASKED WHY ARE YOU NOT ENCOURAGING HARDWARE.
HE SAID WE ARE WHO DOES THE PACKING TO TRANSPORT YOUR SOFTWARE.
ALL OUR CARPENTERS ARE ENGAGED IN PACKING YOUR SOFTWARE IN THE HARDWARE WOODEN BOXES.

Now
Software Engineering is all about building a software or developing a software.
