I’m running windows xp and when I boot up it doesn’t logon properly… I keep getting error messages from Norton saying that drives are unviable but there not and not all the system tray icons load. But if I logoff (not boot) then logon again its all ok.

Any idea’s with stupid worthless operating system?

Thanks.

I know it's not a virus... Ithink maybe a profile problem.

Its probably Norton - I stopped using it ages ago due to it interfeering with other programs.

I agree with Paul S's suggestion about Norton.

I know lots of people use & like it,,and it's always highly rated...
But I also know it's a long-known source of odd problems.

Norton stuff is almost "virus-like" in the way it integrates itself & fools with things.
And lots of time that creates conflicts.

If Your PC is ACTUALLY booting up fine,,,and it IS,,,all you're doing to get it going is Log Off>On ,,,
and Norton is indicating IT THINKS there's a prob....when there's really Not,,
Good Clue that the Prob might well be Norton itself.

Disable it,,and Reboot,,see what happens Without Norton running

You can run Windows "ERROR-CHECKING" Tool,,,it's slow and tedious ,but occasional finds something it can fix.

You can try using Windows "System Restore" feature,,to roll back to a time/configuration when there was No Probs.

Make sure You have & use Updated Anti-Spyware,,,such as Spybot or Ad-Aware(or Both of them)

You can Try this download for a good Clean-Up utility.
It's a Trial Version free for 30 days.
It works very good & easy.
But it WONT actually Fix any major Faults in Windows XP

If none of the above helps,,
You'll possibly have to do a "Repair Install",,which Re-writes Windows over the existing installation,,,but saves all your other stuff intact.
It's tedious and sorta complicated,,and you have to have your original Windows Disk

"Reinstall XP Without Losing Any Software Or Settings"

!!!! Study Up on doing Repair Install Before fooling with it,,and if You are not certain You understand it all & are confident,,get somebody QUALIFIED who can help"

Good Luck

I have XP and have yet to have that problem...yet! I love my microsoft stuff but the more I deal with it, the more I am looking to change to apple. Anywho, you cold try running a virus scan and maybe even getting a different virus scaner. You can try mcaffee. I have not had much of a problem out of that. Another thing you can try is Spy Sweeper by Weboot. It catches a lot of spy wear and adwear and sometimes even viruses your scanner did not catch.

I am certainly no expert on computers. I have learned many things as I go through it with my computer. You might even have a chance at talking with a computer technician. Call up your local Best Buy or computer repair place and see if they can offer you a bit of advice.
