We have a bunch of relatives scattered across the world and would like to send them our wedding invitation although most of them wouldn't be able to make it. I've found this line that's very nicely worded , just right for our situation:

" If you are unable to attend we ask your presence in though and prayer. "

I'm not sure where to place the above line though.

This is how our invitation is worded:
Ceremony
Reception
RSVP
Our wedding website link

Should it be after the Ceremony and Reception paragraph? Or after the Reception paragraph?

What is the appropriate way to do this?

Thanks!

I would suggest that you add that line after all the other information, centered at the bottom of the page and left in quotation marks. Probably will look better to have that line in a slightly different font, intalicized if your other text is not, and a smaller size. Leave generous space between this special line and the other text, so that it also stands out on its own. ...and.... Don't forget the "t" on thought! ;o)
Best wishes!

Instead of inviting people that you know will not come because they live so far away, why not just send out an announcement of your marriage to these people after the wedding. You can get wedding announcement cards pretty much anywhere and especially online. This way you don't have to take up more space on your actual invitation.

If you absolutely want to send the far away guests an invite, I would put your phrase at the bottom of the RSVP part. So it says something along the lines of "Please respond on or before such and such a date. If you are unable to attend we ask your presence in thought and prayer." Or something along those lines.

Hope this helps!

You could put something like "semi formal dress required". Saying "appropriate" is somewhat insulting to the people who know how to dress for a wedding, NO, you are not the only one who has seen people come to a wedding dresses inappropriatly. I went to a wedding last summer. It was beautiful, a nice garden wedding with a reception in a pavillion over the water. This group of people showed up in shorts, tanks and flip flops. They had been out at the lake for the weekend and did not have the courtesy to go and change, came in smelling like beach and sun tan lotion. FLIP FLOPS at a wedding. There I was in a chiffon sun dress, just thinking WTF?? They looked out of place, but did not care. There was another wedding I went to where a few people did not bother to attend the ceremony, but showed up at the reception in jeans..looking like they were going out to a club! It was terrible. People do not always respect the fact that a wedding is more than a party. I totally see your point. Put "semi formal dress" on it and you should be ok.

it should be the last thing on the inivation. and ur rsvp should be on a different card. that can be mailed back to u. if ur asking people to respond through email (which means ur not haveing a formal wedding) then the rsvp can remain on the invitation

I would not put that line on the actual invitation - perhaps include it on the website link?

IT SHOULD BE IN LEFT LOWER LEFT HAND CORNER. DO NOT PUT IN MAIN FRAME OR YOU RISK LOSING IMPORTANT INFO SPACE
