I'm a guy. I was looking for any suggestions on which shampoo to buy for color treated hair. I dye my hair to hide some gray and I heard that the cheap shampoo tends to pull out the dye from your hair quicker.

Because a girl's shining glory in most cases is longer than yours that's the reason for the concern about the color lightening from shampoos. On short hair it doesn't matter that much because lighter ends are cute, frosting looks good, and you'd be coloring fairly often maybe more often than a female.

I know people use Pantene, but I use Flex and still have the problem. Years ago Clairol used to put out a special shampoo for light blondes but still after shampooing, hard water, bleach in the water, you can't keep a shade for long anyway.

Maybe you could just use a good color product (Clairol, Loreal, etc.) and color it when the roots show. Go into Sally's and see if they could suggest something new on the market in those mentioned brands.

well, i haven't noticed significant differences in loss of the hair dye according to shampoo--i change shampoos all the time and also color my hair myself. of course there is no harm in looking for shampoos made specially for maintaining hair color, even in WalMart you can find some in a higher price range (and if you think that denotes higher quality then that will give you some comfort); there's Pantene, which a lot of folks love, or go ahead and walk into a salon and ask them what they recommend, and buy it off their shelf. another thing might be to get shampoo that enhances or adds highlights/color, according to your own hair color, so that when your gray does start to come back, it is not as noticeable as quickly. (like a shampoo that enhances red in your hair will make parts of your hair lighter anyway and make the gray less noticeable, etc).

Yes, it does. Look for a moisture enriched shampoo, with no alcohol, or harsh abrasives. It will preserve the color a lot longer.
