its really thick and when it grows longer it gets to a afro so whats the best hair style for my type of hair

I have the same type of hair. I usually try for a little bit of a tousled, textured look when I get a cut. You can ask the stylist to use the thinning shears (the zig-zag scissors) on some sections, to minimize some of the bulk. If you get a nice short cut and good shape, you can use a little gel and not have to spend a lot of time fixing it. I ask for the cut to be done with scissors only and NOT the clippers.
You can find a picture of a style you like and take it with you to the salon.
