Though some say that the New Testament was written 100-300 years after Christ died, the truth is that it was written before the close of the first century by those who either knew Christ personally, had encountered him, or were under the direction of those who were His disciples.
it is generally believed that Matthew was written before A.D. 70 and as early as A.D. 50.

By around the mid 2nd century, the Gospels existed in some form, as there are extant scraps and references to them start appearing at that time. The epistles also come onto the scene about that time.
