Have searched the web for ideas. All the websites just wish to sell you their products. This has likely been a problem since forever, so there has to be something out there that people used a hundred years ago. Anyone have something they got from their grandmother? Lamisil is pills, with liver damage.

My Grandpa told me to try iodine because he claims it and aloe vera cure everything.

well I put the iodine on everyday for a couple of weeks and saw a great deal of improvement...of course it will discolor your nail for a day or so or while you continue to apply it but you're not showing off those nails anyway....the iodine kills and attacks infections and it does the same way to the fungus...you need to trim your nails back enough but not too far so that the medicine actually gets under the nail...its hard for anything to go through it

i also tried the vicks but it only seemed to work temporarily. didn't last long for me

You need to cut the nail way down as far as you can. Let the skin underneath be exposed to air. My nail salon has been doing this a few weeks and it's working (does not hurt). It's not so pretty for awhile but eventually your nail will be healthy and clear. It's simple and probably something Grandma did. I've had this problem for years and I tried all the topical treatments too and this is the only thing that helped.

The fastest and most effective cure I've run across is Vicks Vaporub and tea tree oil. Every night, rub Vicks onto the affected nail and into the nail bed. Thow a baggy or a sock on it so it doen'st smear all over your bed. In the morning, clean your nail off with tea tree oil on a cotton ball. I saw good results in about 2-3 weeks with this.

Tea Tree Oil, applied to the nail can help. It is a slow process, though.
