I am curious if it's possible to get pregnant if your body is messed up from being on medications. I have had surgery and x-rays galore over the last 4 months and the last 2 months (sept/oct) I have not had a period (on percicept for pain) and have been told that everything can mess up your body and it can prevent or at least delay menstruation. I was wondering, if this is the case, if it is possible to get pregnant and if it is, how would I go about finding out if I am pregnant if my period doesn't show up again for another month??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I want to thank everybody for their answers.
The only thing I want to add is this: I have done a home test before (after I missed 2 months of periods) and it came up Negative. My boyfriend and I thought about doing another but after today we decided we would hold off for a while longer since the last test was done about 2.5 weeks ago.
Thanks again for all your answers.

Since you haven't had a period in so long you can take a home test and see what you get but for the most reliable answer you will need a blood test at your doctors office. If you are going to continue with the x-rays and medications you probably want to get some birth control. You wouldn't want to be pregnant and risk the baby's health with all the tests and meds you have been going through. I do not know what is wrong but it sounds like you haven't been well. I hope you are feeling better soon. Good Luck.

It is still possible to get pregnant, AND it is possible that the medications and proceedures have messed with your fertility.

I would take a home pregnancy test. They test for the presence of a hormone in your system that is only there if you are pregnant. What this means is that there are almost never false positives from home pregnancy tests. There are false negatives, though, if you test too soon after becoming pregnant. So if you get a negative but are still worried, talk to your doctor.

For that matter, if you get a positive, talk to your doctor! :)

Go to the doctor for a blood test. And get on a reliable form of birth control to avoid an unwanted pregnancy.

Medications and stress can cause you to skip periods. But with the possile dangers you have had if you are pregnant, you need to get to the doctor as soon as possible! Medications and x-rays can cause serious harm to a fetus and you need to find out!

Missed periods are only one sign/symptom of pregnancy. There are at least a dozen others. Nausea and vomiting, Breast tenderness or soreness, and extreme tiredness to name at least 3. If it were me I would take to the doctor and find out what would be a good way for you to go.
