drinking alone at 6 am is a definite sign of something beyond a problem with drinking. It shows tolerance and addiction.
I hated being around people toward the end of my drinking. I prefered to get a case of beer and go for a drive in the country unless the weather was crappy..
I've been in recovery for 20+ years and your "friend" probably ought to go to AA if he's ready to stop drinking.

Yes and no. It sounds like your friend may have a problem. But that does not necessary mean that because he drinks alone, he has a problem. (i.e. He has a problem, and so he drinks alone) I think that moderation is key. I love to enjoy a nice glass of wine with my dinner. There are even times that my husband and I will have a few more then that ;), but again, it's all about moderation.

Well the problem lies in if this is an all the time thing. Though technically drinking alone is one of the SIGNS of an alcohol problem, it definetely does not necessarily mean that he for sure has a problem. Does he have any other signs or symptoms that would suggest to you he has an alcohol problem? Does he constantly reek of alcohol? If you would like to help him, I am sure there are plenty of resources out there that would be willing to give you more information and tips and advice. yes drinking alone is a problem but drinking as a kid is a bigger one how old is this person? if someone feels that they need to drink for no reason such as if there is no party or social gathering and if your drinking extensively then there is a problem and what makes it worse is that this kid is probably drinking in order to cover up a different problem he already has...its no good but if you plan to help him i hope you know his family or someone because issues such as this don't just go away over night and just because you care about him that wont make him better

plently of people like to drink alone..theres nothing wrong with it. people like different things. some like to drink with friends. some enjoy the peace and quite. some people have wine when they eat their dinner alone -doesnt mean they have a problem. the problem arises when they are dependant on drink, the first thing they think of when they wake up and last thing they think of before sleep. thats when someone has a problem

Drinking alone is definately a problem, especially if it's ongoing till 6am. If it is one drink, like a glass of wine in the evening, then I wouldn't worry, but if this guy is drinking alot he is trying to drink away his problems. I would be careful how close you let yourself get to him. People with drinking problems are nasty to deal with.

I drink alone, yeah, with nobody else.
I drink alone, yeah, with nobody else.
Yeah, you know when I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself.
Now, every morning, just before breakfast,
I don't want no coffee or tea.
Just me and my good buddy Weiser.
That's all I ever need.
Cause I drink alone, yeah, with nobody else.
I drink alone, yeah, with nobody else.
Yeah, you know when I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself.
