I was given sulfa for a UTI and developed a rash 8 days after taking the antibiotic. I called the dr. and he told me to stop taking it and to take Benadryl. I was just wondering if anyone can give me an estimate as to how long it will take this rash to go away. It seems like it is getting worse instead of better at the moment. I stopped taking the antibiotic on Sunday morning when the rash first started and have a dinner party to go to this coming Sunday, do you think it will be gone by then?

It will probably clear up by then. Drink a lot of water in the meantime. However keep in mind that you are allergic to sulfa based drugs so you will need to let your physicians know this when they ask about allergies in the future.

Probably. It should already be clearing up. If not then see your Dr. because it may be something else. If it is from the sulfa and you keep up the Benadryl you should be fine by Sunday if not sooner.

Millions of patients have problems with sulfa-based meds. They have been on their way out for a long time.

You are not allergic to this med: however, you have had an adverse reaction. (very common with sulfa)

Take tepid baths in oatmeal. It will help your rash.
You should provide another urine sample to unsure UTI has resolved.
