I recently got a new crockpot, but I have found it hard to use. I'll follow a recipe to a T, but my food comes out 'dry'. My manhatten clam chowder came out VERY thick, so much so it would be a strech to call it soup. With my cabbage stew, I ended up with no broth. I don't know if maybe it's tempurature setting are too high, or what. Any ideas?

The problem may not only be the temperature but the type of crockpot. There are metal crockpots and ceramic ones. The metal ones tend to heat higher and drier because the metal conducts the heat better. The ceramic ones are better for long, slow cooking because the ceramic holds the heat at a stable point, providing a more even heat for long cooking times.

Suggestions given above should all help solve the problem while you adjust to this new cooking style.

Does it have multiple temperature settings? If so, the lowest one is always the best to use. The slower you cook the food, the better it is. You should check the crockpot every couple hours anyways just to see if you need to add a little water or milk to your concoction. That's what I do!! Good luck!!

I would increase the liquid by one cup and cook on low for 8-10 hrs. Slow cookers can be tricky sometimes. I usually add a cup more liquid then the recipe calls. I HTH

It may be that your temperature settings are too high. I would suggest adding extra liquids and also keeping an eye on anything you're cooking. You may need to fiddle with the temp, length of time, and amount of water you add. Good luck!

I would try adding more water to the reciepes, and also use the low setting even if it calls for high. You may want to add a couple of drops of olive oil to the pot after every use to keep it from becoming too dry. Pam works too. (oil spray)

I would add some more liquids to your meals, and turn the temp down and let it slow cook longer. Good Luck!!

you could lower the temps & you could extra liquid also check the lid & the crockpot for cracks it could be a hairline crack that is hard to see
