if you are asking this question, it probably should no longer be considered a food substance. I would drive to the local convience store for the el cheapo stuff to be safe.

Well if u still don't know this then... i don't know what's wrong with u! Just look in the back of the butter or margarine for the expiration date, that's how u can find out how long does it last after the sell date.

Butter that has been opened will have the best flavor if it's stored in a covered dish and refrigerated in the butter compartment. Both opened and unopened butter may be kept on the refrigerator shelf for a month after the sell-by date. Flavor is an indication when it no longer is usable: It will develop a strong, rancid taste. To freeze, wrap in foil or place in freezer bags. Butter keeps well four to six months at 0 degrees or lower.

Sell by date is just a guide for retailers to follow so that the consumer gets the freshest possible product. You can freeze butter for a year. You'll know it's rancid by an off-taste or smell. Margarine isn't fit for human consumption because it's "good" indefinately.

sell by date does not have to do with the date at which the food is no longer good. Butter lasts for weeks if not months in your frig. you could even freeze it if you aren't going through it very fast.

a minimum of a week in summer time, near to 2 weeks in wintry climate. No, refrigerator isn't the respond--it merely motives mould to strengthen. in case you are able to't use it quickly sufficient, placed it interior the freezer.

that really depends upon the conditions (most notably, temperature).
me, i don't use it if it's expired at all. best not to take chances.
and travis is right. you can freeze butter with no ill effects, and it will last indefinitely.
