does anyone know why did washington cross the delaware river during the revolutionary war... please answer quick i will vote for you for best answer to first person.. thanks i need it like now i am in school right now.. help!

In order to attack the Hessians in Trenton New Jersey. It was a treacherous crossing as there was much ice in the river and it was extremely cold. It was necessary to get the cannons across the river as well. Once across, the river, they had to march 9 miles North towards Trenton. The attack wa agreat success. 21 Hessians were killed, 90 wounded, and 900 were taken prisoner. Another 500 managed to escape.

to attack german mercenaries to keep the revolution going - - had to do with the anti-tea tax forces. all i know, hope it helped.
