We are looking at a new house that requires a lot of modernisation - 3 bed semi. Does anyone know how much I can expect to carpet 2 x reception rooms, hallway and stairs, landing and 3 bedrooms? Just standard fairly hard-wearing carpet, 1 colour no patterns, short pile, nothing too posh/pricey? I need to budget for everything and haven't got a clue as not done this before! Thank you

GEEEE well it depends on the lot size too. Where I live, its typical to have 7 bathrooms in a 2 story house. And that doesnt count the ones that are part of the lower flower which is rented off to people. So its like 500, 000. Way back in 2001, they were 180,00

Why have fitted carpets? The majority of us have now gone over to wood [wooden] floors. Soooo much easier to keep clean - a quick mopping does the trick and under the beds. Boy, housework is so much eeeasier and cheaper. Your average vacuum cleaner will burn masses of electricity. Save yourself lots of problems and money - get wooden floors put in. You'll love it - promise.

For the removal of the carpet do not pay more than £2.50/m2 - this includes stripping up and taking away.

A lay only rate for carpet is - £5.50/m2

NB - these are commercial rates, they might differ from residential rates, but its pretty much the same.

An ok carpet might cost you around £20.00/m2

About £2.5-3k

measure all you rooms. go to a carpet warehouse and buy off the roll.get a quote for fitting as well. that should keep the cost down.
