I liked the movie a lot. I think that the things were really happening, particularly because of the references to his dad doing the same thing with the photo album.
I think that the movie is supposed to make you think about choices that you make in day to day life. You don't normally get to see the alternative. What would happen if you did x instead of z? What if you missed the train, what if you didn't get a certain job, etc. How would life be different.
I think it's great that they miss each other in the end. There's an alternate ending where they talk to each other, but that seems so... unnatural. In the end, he had to give her up to save her. That's love.

I loved the movie. I was incredibly shocked the first time I saw it but I've watched it a few times and every time it makes more and more sense. Those things all really did happen.
Kutcher's character had a gift in which he could go back in time and be in his own body at that time, control what was going on, and therefore change the past. Everytime he had a blackout as a child in the movie, this was a result of his adult self going back in time to change the past.
The whole point in him going back in time and trying to change things is so the girl could have a good life. He wanted to be with her and for her to have a good life without hurting others. But everytime he changed one thing and made it good, other things went wrong. This is where the Butterfly Effect comes in. The slightest change can throw everything off balance. So in the end he makes it so that he and her never met, she goes to live with her mother, and her and her brother have a good life. Although he loves her and wants to be with her, he knows that this is the best thing to do.
Excellent movie! You should try watching it again - it all pieces together.

he butterfly effect is a phrase that encapsulates the more technical notion of sensitive dependence on initial conditions in chaos theory. Small variations of the initial condition of a dynamical system may produce large variations in the long term behavior of the system. This is sometimes presented as esoteric behavior, but can be exhibited by very simple systems: for example, a ball placed at the crest of a hill might roll into any of several valleys depending on slight differences in initial position.
The phrase refers to the idea that a butterfly's wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that ultimately cause a tornado to appear (or, for that matter, prevent a tornado from appearing). The flapping wing represents a small change in the initial condition of the system, which causes a chain of events leading to large-scale phenomena. Had the butterfly not flapped its wings, the trajectory of the system might have been vastly different.
Recurrence, the approximate return of a system towards its initial conditions, together with the sensitive dependence on initial conditions are the two main ingredients for chaotic motion. They have the practical consequence of making complex systems, such as the weather, difficult to predict past a certain time range (approximately a week in the case of weather).
Honestly.. not sure

it extremely is called the Butterfly result, via fact a chinese language Chaos concept, known via fact the Butterfly result, states that "the ability of a butterflies wings might nicely be felt on the different area of the worldwide." meaning that something extremely minor like a butterfly flapping its wings, ought to bring about like a tsunami some distance away, and that each thing is correct. that's rather lots what the action picture is approximately. The slightest substitute finally ends up changing each thing.

Honestly my fiance and I really liked it! We went to the show twice to see it (ok so maybe the second time we only went cause our friends went and we wanted to hang out with them) and we bought it on DVD when it came out too. I think (since it's a fictional movie) that all of that really happened. I also thought it was a clever movie and I liked the way you understood more of the plot after you realized what had happened after he woke up. Watching it a second time really helped understanding it more though.
Oh and I would like to add that the directer did a great job with the soundtrack. Using the song he did as the movie was finishing really takes you to the world he presented. I love when movies use the music they display correctly!

YES YES YES!!
IT IS A BRILLIANT FILM I strongly reccomend recommend that you watch the alternate ending, its very good. (maybe better)
it will validate that it did happen. I dont think that there is any question about that, but I see your point, the other ending will put a tottally different slant on it.
If you like this I strongly reccomend you watch "the jacket"
"Enter sunshine of a spotless mind" is slightly similar
and "the usual suspects" just kicks ****

i do believe in the this phenomena.
I also believe that the final end result of a system will be the same in the long term regardless of the actions of the individual entities in the system. And it makes sense that the smallest actions from an individual entity can result in much bigger results depending on the coincidence of time place and magnitude.
