Natures Miracle - buy it at the pet store - not cheap but there are a couple different varieties of Natures Miracle - they have a liquid and they have some "granola" type looking powder. Is your cat a male? Is he neutered? Is your cat box dirty? These are some of the things you need to consider so that it does not continue peeing in the vent. Cover the vent up with a throw rug when you don't need the heater.

Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very frightened and would pee all over the house. I found Cat Spraying No More on the internet and the techniques worked almost immediately. I haven't had a problem with Lola since. Amazing! Can't stop your cat peeing in the house? Then worry no more...

Sprinkle alittle bit of banking soda in the vent. With the heat off mind you. And add a couple of moth balls. The backing soda will absorb most of the pee and the moth balls with cover the smell until nature does the rest.
The moth balls may even help stop your cat from peeing in the vent since cats cant stand the smell of them.
The only other solution is changing the whole duct leading to the furnace.

Get a spray bottle and fill with white vinegar. Spray down in the vent, coat the area good. You will smell vinegar for a few days but the vinegar will neutralize the enzymes in the urine that make it smell. Good Luck!!

sometimes a box of baking soda sat in the vent will absorb the odor or cut a lemon in half and put it in the vent, won't fix the problem, but might cover it up. also you might want to consider getting rid of the cat

All of these ideas sound good. Maybe you could just combine this with one of the other suggestions. I would take the cover off of the vent and use a good cleaner like pine-sol or ammonia pretty heavy and if you have one use a shop vac to suck all the nasty liquid out.

you may also want to try something to keep the cat away from the vent, like a spray.
