whenever you are compelled to kiss a mans feet, it should be a red flag in your heart that something is amiss.
The bible states that no man is above the servent, as Jesus knelt and washed the feet of his apostles.
If Jesus taught this, and the pope is above his own followers, there should be red flags going off in his head if he follows the very bible he makes his living off of.
As for sainthood, the bible states that the moment we believe we become saints. I cannot figure how a church body of men decided that they alone had the power to declare one person a saint and another not.
There is heirarchy within any church body. Even small non denominational churches have decons and elders. The point that the bible made about this servent position is that they were to serve, not rule over.
But, alas to answer your question, the Catholic Church does not believe that the bible is good enough. They believe that they can add to it as they see fit because they receive revelations telling them to change the word of God, not unlike the muslims in that respect. Also not unlike the saggities and the pharasies whom Jesus told that they had received their reward on earth and when they look for their names in the book of life will be told, I never knew you.

Yes, the pope has been made out to be more than he really is ... as well as less than he really is.
It's about time people took the time to understand exactly what role the pope plays in Christianity, based on the literal word of God, rather than the false traditions of men.
As for saints and hierarchy ... both these concepts, along with the Catholic Church itself, come directly from God.
Why should any man attempt to tone them down?

The Pope is still exactly who Jesus made him to be - chief shepherd of the Christian Church, Vicar of Christ on earth, and keeper of the Keys to the Kingdom. No-one kisses the Pope's feet. Where did you get that idea?? In fact, the Pope, like the celebrant of every other Christmas vigil mass, washes the feet of several people, an act of humility reaffirming his position as "Servant of the Servants of God" (one of his official titles).
The Church does not "make" anyone a saint. A person becomes a saint by accepting the free gift of salvation from our Lord and Savior, being faithful to Him until death, and entering heaven. The process of canonization merely affirms that a particular individual who was an outstanding example of Christian holiness is in fact a saint. But that person would be a saint whether the Church canonized him/her or not. There are many millions of uncanonized saints in heaven.

The pope follows the role that Christ established with St. Peter in Matt 16:18-19, to guide His Church.
The pope is the servant of the servants of God. This especially rings true when you see that the rest of his days (literally) are planned out for him. It's not just a normal 9-5 obviously.

basically, like in every large denomination there is a leader - just like in a business or corporation or non for profit. the Rcc just calls him the pope/pappa. the aspect of Sainthood it not an easy process and i don't believe it should be toned down at all. while we are all saints to a degree, the Saints are people in our past and present that have shown us how we; as normal humans, can give all to God for the Glory and Turth of God. Sanithood is not bestowed as a gift of God but rather IMO a role model for my own life showing me that -- yes I can be as Christ-like as Christ has shown me.

Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:17-19)
The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock.
The Pope is the senior pastor of 1.1 billion Catholics, the direct successor of Simon Peter.
With love in Christ.
